Congratulations to Alfie May. https://www.efl.com/news/2023/novem...-and-player-of-the-month-winners-for-october/ When did we last have a player win this ? I think possibly Lyle Taylor ? Anyway thanks to Thomas for his parting gift. And looking forward to SE7 partners January signings as they apparently (according to an unreliable foreign sauce) didn’t want our Alfie because he wasn’t good enough and they will be bringing in better players. Anyone else waiting with bated breath ? Anyone ??
Correction - not Lyle Taylor - last winners…. Ben Amos 10/2020 Jason Pearce 6/2020 (Championship) Igor Vetokele 8/2014 (Championship) Johnnie Jackson 1/2012 Michael Morrison 11/2011
You'd think Player of the Month would always be chosen from the top two or three teams in the table, so well done Alfie It's a wonderful change to see us taking onboard a decent player and not Charltonizing him.
And now top scorer in L1 as well https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-one/top-scorers Thanks again Thomas
The most league goals ever scored by a Charlton player in one season is 32. Ralph Allen, season 1934-35 (3rd Division South). The season Jimmy Seed got Charlton promoted back to the 2nd Division. The season before we made it to the 1st Division for the first time ever. It seems incredible that in the midst of one of the poorest times in our professional history, Alfie May could possibly break Ralph Allen's record after 89 years. Fill your boots Alfie (By the way, Killer's best league goals season was 1975-76 when he bagged 28. Johnny Summers also scored 28 in season 1957-58. Both were second Division seasons). Eddie Firmani scored the most ever league goals in the 1st Division - 25 in season 1954-55 Benty scored 18 Premiership league goals in 2005-06
Play the little bugger as a No.10 Mickey A. He's the striker we've been looking for for years, don't chuck him out on the wing. Okay he scored 2 penalties last night courtesy of Cheltenham defenders, but that shouldn't mask the fact that his best position is in the middle, and not as a lone striker. And Tyreece Campbell is a real winger, let him play there.
If Alfie was to go on a goal drought or gets a long term injury, we are truly f*****. We're a one man team. SE7 can f*** off, you're a bunch of chancers.
Swisdom on Charlton Life said he spoke to Aneke on Saturday and that he's back within 2-3 weeks Is that back in training? Is that back on the grass? Is that watching the next game? Is that back injured? Is that back for a new increased contract?
We’ll need to get him back scoring again if he is to win this. Unfortunately February may prove to be slim pickings for Alfie. https://www.charltonafc.com/news/alfie-may-shortlisted-efl-player-year
No disrespect to Alfie, but a player from a Club in 18th place in League One (and unlikely to finish much higher) is not going to win EFL Player of the Year. Does the whole short list only have five players on it?
