I agree mostly but I hate it when people say that. Every point earned keeps a team up, no matter who they're won from. 3 points are available in every game, and those 3 points are just as valuable won at Stamford Bridge as they would be at home against Sunderland.
Not true. 3 points against Sunderland is more valuable as it denies a relegation rival any points in a match, effectively giving us a 6 point differential to them had they won and we lost.
So hypothetically, let's say all the points Sunderland get are 9 wins against the 5 teams who finish immediately around them at the bottom above and below, and all the points we get are 10 wins all against the top 5. Who finishes higher?
That's not the point I was making. The point I am making is 9 wins against the teams around you is more valuable because the difficulty for the teams around you to get the equivalent wins against the top teams is much higher, AND you're ensuring they don't win their games against you. 9 wins v 9 wins is of course the same. Have you never wondered what the term '6-pointer' refers to?
If we win enough games though we won't have rivals to be concerned over any more. 'Relegation rivals' threads wouldn't be needed. Burnley forums probably don't have a relegation rivals thread now.
Apologies if already mentioned, I can't be arsed to read all the pages , but does Bruce have a call back option? Fingers crossed no injuries to a centre back , I know we have Tom , but he's smashing it in midfield
I think it was said he could only be recalled during a transfer window? If that's right then he's gone
I know exactly what it refers to but I just don't buy this 6 pointers and free hits nonsense. Obviously you make your job easier by beating the teams around you but you stay up or go down based on results against every team over the season not just a handful in a small group around you in the table. You could lose home and away to all of the eventual bottom three and it wouldn't matter if you pick up results elsewhere. Every game is just as important against the next.
But if you go down 2-0 in 10 games and then go for it and lose 5-0 in 9 of them, but come back to draw 2-2 in one, you are in a better position than if you played it safe and lost all by 2.
6 pointers aren't nonsense. If we beat a relegation rival we're six points better off relative to them than if they beat us.
