With City winning against Villa this evening, we simply cannot afford to lose on Wednesday - I'd actually go as far as saying it's a must-win, due to us not picking up the points we needed against Everton and Brentford. I wasn't impressed with City in their second half against Villa, and they leave plenty of spaces to counter and play through. But that's also because Dias came off at HT (which was precautionary due to him being on a yellow) and he's clearly their best defender. I'm not sure how serious Haaland's injury is. I think we just have to assume that was also precautionary and he'll be fit to participate. We really need a big performance from the boys on Wednesday. I'm hoping they can do the business.
Hmm it's to early for that. I still see Man City dropping random points throughout this season - I can't see them going on a long unbeaten run. We need to win for our confidence though.
Actually think a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world as points difference still the same and another game down, and the we would need to get a draw at their place for same reasons City have to go for a win so that may open the game up for us to at least get a draw as they do concede
Exactly my thoughts, thus why I said above it's so important whatever the result Man City do not take more points from this game than us! As you said, one extra game done and out of the way.
Ignoring my first post on this thread (which was emotionally-charged)... Irrespective of the result tonight, it's important to remember nothing is won or lost at this stage. We need to block out the media sensationalism that City winning would instantly mean they'd go on a run and we'd capitulate. I'm not saying that won't happen, but there are also other possibilities that could arise from us not getting a win tonight. By equal measure, even if we win, it does not mean we are guaranteed to go and win the title either. I remember in 2015/16 when Welbeck got that late winner against Leicester and everyone thought we were going to take the league by storm at that point. As it happened, Leicester maintained their winning run and we ended up falling off, losing to the likes of Swansea, a depleted Man United team, and drawing to Palace, Sunderland, West Ham etc. It may be a psychological blow to lose tonight, but it could also be a turning point which we use to propel us forward. We also have a game in hand on City even if the worst case scenario happens. Winning tonight could also lead to more scrutiny/pressure on us to claim the title and we'd have to see how the players handle that expectation having never been here before. The bottom line is, there's so much football to be played and there will be so many narratives spun to suit certain agendas. The players can't let it get to them no matter which way things go.
Agree with the above but because we havent won in our last 3 matches (since Jan 22 Man Utd) it's important we dont forget how to win, I still worry about our previous mental fragilities.
Seeing suggestions that Partey hasn’t travelled with the squad and is unavailable for the game tonight. Could be rumours and nothing could come of it, but let’s see. Will make our task a lot harder if he’s unavailable tonight.
I'm here to offer you all my most sincere condolences as we watch your title dreams being extinguished over the coming weeks and months .
Newcastle fan? When did you last win anything? 70 years or so hasn’t it been? Think you need to sit this one out for now.
That's the thing you haven't got the experience required to deal with giving away such a lead. I'm here to help you striker
HT. 1-1. Frustrating Tomi gifted them that goal, as we’ve been the better team and looked more dangerous. But he’s not been our worst player. Saliba yet again with a subpar display. He still isn’t aggressive enough in aerial duels and is a massive weak link in defence. We’ve gone toe-to-toe with them and dominated at times, but we need to cut out these silly mistakes otherwise they’ll punish us like de Bruyne did.
soon tension in the crowd will see man City start to dominate and then they'll penetrate your limbic systems with a goal.
Thought we were very good first half. We've been the better team for sure. Jorginho has been excellent, fair play to him.
