As well as we played against Liverpool last weekend, we have played equally as badly this weekend. Abysmal in every respect. Still time to turn this around though.
You have yo wonder why this team starts matches half asleep. Similar to the Wenger era. Start playing only in the second half! SMFH!
We've been tactically outdone in that half. Wolves have outperformed us. They've been pressing us when we enter their half, closing down all the spaces, kept their shape well and then countered when we lose the ball/overcommit. They're happy for us to pass the ball around deep because we're not going to hurt them. Iwobi has tried to make things happen, but he's the only one. I'm fuming that Xhaka was so utterly careless in that third of our pitch. How do you show such a lack of spatial awareness and let the ball run? He's meant to be one of our most experienced players. It's not the first time he's cost us due to his carelessness, either. I'd be tempted to drop him. He's a liability. Costa and Cavaleiro have been ripping us apart. Kolasinac has been utterly dreadful, too. Poor touch, poor passing, no pace, bad positioning. Overall, there's just no speed or intensity to our game. All very laborious. We will lose if we perform like that in the second half. Genuinely shocking.
On a serious note, these first-half performances are a real worry. We can't keep relying on strong second-half displays all the time to get the 3 points. We need to utilise the full 90 minutes. We're just not doing it.
Seems like mistakes are contagious today! Lets up it in the 2nd half with some quick interchanges, runs off the ball and some direct play! ZERO shots on goal with a huge possession, it's a bit like Sporting Lisbon match all over again, except 10 times worse!
Guendouzi coming on for Iwobi? I don't understand that sub... Is it because Iwobi's injured? If so, then at least bring Mkhitaryan or Maitland-Niles.. We have no width now
Even if by some miracle we manage to get something out of this game, there are serious concerns over the squad and the way we are starting games.
This is me thinking we have turned the corner... Losing to a team that has lost 3 on the bounce... Think our boss was starting to believe in himself. What a garbage performance.
