Pochettino replaces Adkins.

A story which originated from the footballing hotbed of Catalunya, it made the press in Pochettino's home nation last week (9th January) that he was in talks to take over as manager of Southampton Football Club. Fast forward another nine days and Nigel Adkins has gone, Andy Crosby has gone, Dean Wilkins has gone and Jim Stannard has gone. In Nigel's seat sits a new man, Mauricio Pochettino. A correct call from the Iberian press. A shocker, one that sticks in the throat of many Saints fans. But a change to progress the club, says Chairman Nicola Cortese.

Pochettino comes with a questionable record, but some good comments from Spanish football pundits and personalities. Guillem Balague and Rafa Benitez amongst those calling MP a "good appointment" for a club like Southampton. He has been compared to Bielsa, and is known for working with youth to try and be exciting and effective.

What lies around the next corner, nobody knows.

I think it's a big misunderstanding, he is being brought in as manager of concessions, Cortese likes his Argentinian cuisine.

Like all club chairmen, Cortese has his eyes open for opportunities, but he's no idiot. He's got a diamond in Adkins, and he knows it. Adkins is the most efficient manager he's likely to get. When it's time for a parting of the ways, Cortese will tell Nigel, but it isn't for a long while yet, especially at the rate Nigel appears to be learning the PL. This team/staff PL learning curve is almost as entertaining as winning almost everything in the last 2-3 years.

It's not very lazy, it's quite inventive.

 

Wouldn't be the least surprised if we considered him as Nigel's replacement in early November, after the West Brom game, when we had just four points to our name.

Would be beyond surprised if we were still considering him now, because we've been on top ten form since. The points totals of every Prem team since:

God theres been some amount of waffle in the papers regarding Adkins over the last few months....When the time does come eventually when he does leave it will feel weird to see someone else in charge and very strange to see Nige in charge of someone else
