I like Carroll, still has the greatest hold up and lay off play I've ever seen in a toon shirt. Good to see he's still got it, didn't expect much of him. Would like him to be given a start so he can impose himself on a game instead of being the very obvious plan B.
Oh, and is everybody enjoying the football from Steve 'attacking' Bruce? How many goals we scored from open play again? Pulis ball.
We got too carried away with the 2 wins in a row. This is what the season will be like ups and downs.
foul on Gayle -- no as I said earlier we don't get soft fouls had that been against us it would certainly be a foul
mate he couldn't have got anything more wrong from start to finish … set up for a draw and then once again showed he cannt read a game to save his life .. I think we are about to start losing regularly now . he has dig his own grave comparing points vs rafa because the second half of the season we were outscoring any side outside the top points wise , so it's going to come back on him bigtime.
Bit silly anyway considering Rafa was given patience due to having took us up and kept us up. The only fair comparison is Rafa's first 10 games in charge against Bruce's. Surprise, surprise, Rafa got more points.
tbh it was bruce that started with the comparison , so like i say he better hope we finish the season well
Dreadful performance. Unless Bruce starts making changes, I fear a Rafa equalling 10 matches without a win I can't believe that anyone does not recognise that Almiron should not be starting. The poorest player on the pitch tonight. After the city game, I hope Bruce dumps the 3 at the back stuff. It might be the only way to have more than 3 players trying to play football.
He manages from the 90's. Very, very basic stuff. Tonight was utterly obvious - sit deep and hold it to 0-0, then hit Villa on a few counters and maybe score a goal. Villa had a better plan and seemed more in tune. Most teams seem to be able to look competent in attack, but by Christ we were painfully bad, individually and as a team. Wesley looks closer to a £40m player, and he's not one. Joelinton shows flashes, but there's no real threat. Almiron was absolutely woeful. Max flashes, but again no real threat. The midfield two look, as they too often do, like Championship players. Modern footballers they ain't - Hourihane, Grealish and McGinn all outclassed them. We were getting smashed in CM, were poor in defence, so why not switch and match them up with a 4-3-3, put Hayden on Grealish and DO something different? But no - even when we did "change" it was 4-4-2 and smash it long. If goals are so easy to get why don't teams just do that from the start? Oh, that's right - because it NEVER WORKS. Once we conceded tonight there was no plan b. I'm not sure there ever is. The thing I think always hits with Bruce is there's no identity. It's "go on, bonny lad, enjoy yaself" and hope for the best. What are we TRYING to do? What's SUPPOSED To happen? I wish I knew - what happened to the team that did so well against Bournemouth and West Ham??
the thing is almiron is a left sided player , so who's fault is it ? bruce is a dreadful manager plain and simple .
But what shape, given that squad? I would possibly drop Almiron into a midfield 3 and go with Joelinton/Max as a front two.
honestly after watching that i cannot offer a suggestion other than we lost the game before a ball was kicked … they went 4-3-3 and we never looked right , so maybe we needed to match them up and go 4-3-3 ourselves .. the thing is next week city at home we might aswel stick with 5 at the back because it does work in most games and its about goal difference in that match
