After the team’s heroics in not only achieving an away win, but also 3 consecutive clean sheets in the Championship, tonight sees us travel to West London to take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup. Our opponents are currently in one the relegation slots, but this is a cup game and anything is possible. I would expect DF to rest some of his players as a result of some of the rough treatment dished out to them on Saturday, with little or no protection from the match officials and JM in particular is one of those I expect to be missing from the starting 11. I still think it will be quite a strong team and I would like to see us progress and go on a cup run. Both Martin and Naismith have been ruled out and Hanley is ‘cup-tied’. DF says - “It’s important to have some fresh legs on the pitch, and also Brentford is a different team so there will be some tactical changes too. But these changes will be made because we really want to win the game.” I'm hoping for a Canaries win!!!
I'm predicting a few rested players from the new and improved back line so Hanley Martin and Husband to come in Tettey rested and Watkins up front. 4-0 Brentford
And Martin is unavailable due to another flare up with his colitous, I think he only played for the U23's following an injection to get him through. Once again our squad has been left paper thin in one area. Have we signed a RB yet? Bah!
The young forward we bought Abrahams is with us permanently, It would be nice to see him make the squad tonight he's got a couple of goals for U23s and maybe integrate Middleton?
He only played around 30 minutes at the end on Sunday and still forced the Blackburn keeper into a good save. Edit - At least we won't have to face Sergi tonight - "Canos is sidelined with an ankle injury that has seen him make just one start for Dean Smith’s side so far this season."
I think we will lose tonight. Hope not but Brentford are not a bad side and our away record is not very good.
It's reported that we are interested in a young lad at Kilmarnock for transfer in January. He plays mid-field - why the hell do we need another MF!! Haven't we got about ten already?
A spot on the bench perhaps for a youngster, but I'm expecting quite conservative team selection. Reed and Wes to come in for Tettey and Maddison, then I wouldn't be surprised if that's the only changes from the weekend. You can make a case for resting several defenders, or giving the likes of Husband another chance to impress, but I think Farke will choose continuity to let this defensive unit grow together.
22 year old winger from Scotland? Sounds like the worst possible combination of McGrandles and Canos. Can't say I see the need really.
