Thing is. He stays quiet about it and tells no one. Then Jack Ross doesn’t pick these players and gets slated by the fans. Rock meets hard place!
There will be three sorts of young players coming up to contract renewal. A - Most promising, must keep. B- Looks OK may or may not make it. Worth another year or so to see how he develops. C- No chance of becoming a pro player. The B's and the C's would jump at the chance of a contract, and if they don't, there not a lot of concern. It those in category A that this policy will be aimed at and I'm by no means convinced that the way it has been publicly highlighted is the best way encourage talented Kids that SAFC is the best place for them to learn to be quality Footballers.
It looks narrow minded now, but he is protecting the long term interests of the Club. I'm OK with it, and by going public (as said above) he is protecting his manager
you answer your own argument with your caption The fact that no-one agrees with what I say is not, in itself, proof positive that I am wrong.
The object of the exercise is to turn SAFC around. We've been in free-fall and serious action is required to correct that. I would rather get the ground rules right and set in stone than go up this season. That means any player, not just young ones, ANY player who isn't 100% committed can **** off now. If he wants to play silly buggers I don't want him in the squad, let alone the first team. We've had enough of that, quite frankly...
in those immortal words of Chubby Brown i'm right behind you............Y-- F-- B-----D..............
It would be interesting to see how other clubs handle youth/academy players coming to the ends of their contracts.
Certainly. I wonder if that would even be a policy at other clubs, even if it is kept behind closed doors.
I actually listened to the rest of the podcast this morning on the way to work and I think Donald is incredibly naive and to a degree quite stupid to have gone about it this way. He essentially said "I've told Jack they're not allowed to play". How on earth does that sound to fans that Donald is potentially undermining Jack? How does it look to players? How does it look to other teams who could start to become vultures on our good youngsters by tapping them up? I get the sentiment, but I think this is one of the worst things he's done since he's been here.
I've not heard it all yet but I have read the quotes from it. He talks like a fan a lot of the time, which on the one hand is good, but on the other, its not the best way to run a football club.
I'll let you make your own mind up obviously but I just think hes coming across incredibly naive at times. He talks about finances far too much for my liking too. It gives other teams ammunition to hold us to ransom. He's been tremendous in terms of getting our club back on track to where we want it to be but sometimes a little too open and honest for me. Needs to box a little cleverer for me.
Don't need help on that score, Rog. I'm coming up to the Donny game tomorrow and it's off to Colman's gaff on the Coast Road with the missus thereafter
hope you have a cracking time, hope we murder them 5 nowt, are you dumping her at the metro center with your credit card while you go to the match , or do you recon that move is to dangerous financially.
