I know OF & H is repeated all the time, I didn't read the OP properly. An added bonus of watching Hill Street Blues...
Not just BBC. ITV had a series called "Mystery and Imagination" in the 1960's. One episode was Lost Hearts by M.R.James. It's the story of two children, girl and boy, who are murdered in a house and their hearts taken in a ritual. When a third child arrives, destined for the same fate, he starts to see their ghostly figures and hears unearthly screams... It was made in black and white, the best for that genre imo, and it was simply the most scary thing I have ever seen. I still remember those screams to this day. It was wiped. They made a remake in the 70's in colour and it was tame
I am a huge MR James fan Goldie, proper old fashioned genuinely creepy Edwardian ghost stories. Jonathan Miller did a TV version (black and white) possibly in the same series that you mention, of 'Whistle and I'll Come to You' starring Michael Hordern, which I think you can see on YouTube. Lo and behold it is on there, but apparently a BBC production
Anyone remember a BBC play called The Stone Tape, which I remember as being particularly creepy and intriguingly scary? Memory told me it would have been in the sixties, but I just looked it up and it was 1972. I'd like to see that again.
All that remains of the series is this trailer. I remember seeing this episode 'Casting the Runes', it was genuinley scary. On the same theme one of the scariest films I ever saw when about 12 years old was a late Friday night ITV screening of 'Night of the Demon' or 'Curse of the Demon' as it was called in the USA starring Dana Andrews, the scene in the woods as he's chased by the fireball demon (at 1.40) gave me nightmares for months after...
The Australian wining Ashes series throughout numerous decades over the past 100 years! Marvellous that.
Most Dennis Potter and Alan Bleasdale plays and series, can't remember The Monocled Mutineer being repeated. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092404/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Perfect World was superb - I thought the Marketing Director was just brilliant. I have one series on the BBC video but the picture quality isn't great
Good old Oliver Postgate who gave us such delights as Pogles' Wood, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, Clangers and Bagpuss.
