I received as a gift a three bottle sample set of whisky. All 10 year old single malt.

    1 Ledaig
    2 Jura
    3 Speyburn

I wasn't really into whiskey. I must admit to getting a bit of a taste for it now.

I especially liked the Ledaig. It deffo tasted peaty. It was the first time I have ever tasted a real difference.

If this thread needs merging please do.

    Any other recommendations?

Ahhh and Happy New Year to you all.

    Ooh
This could be a long thread!

Which Jura? I’ve got a Jura Origin on the go, although ive also had Jura Superstition. Nice scotch, although quite sweet (perfect for with a big Cuban cigar). Actually I think Origin is the 10 year old

I don’t think I’ve had Ledaig, although I assume it’s an island scotch if it’s good and peaty. Personally that's my favourite style, with a 16 year old Lagavulin being my absolute favourite (although I’d like some of the limited edition 12 year old releases too...but they cost a fortune)

Speyburn is a Speyside scotch so youve ended up with a good spread there. A bit lighter and much less peaty

You can’t really say which is best, just drink more of what you prefer!

I’ve currently got a Jura Origin, a Glenlivet Founders Reserve, a Glenmorangie MidWinter Night, a personalised bottle of Laphroaig and a 21 year old Japanese Nikka Whisky that was a gift and I can’t decide when to open

Anyway...enjoy them all, then try more and more.

Single malts are all different, but so much nicer than blended stuff

Oh and personally I add a little water too. Seems to improve the flavour to me (not too much though)

Whisky tastes like poison to me, can't stand the smell or the taste.

P.S. What I should have said, is it taste like what I expect poison to taste like, as I have never tried poison, if I had I wouldn't be here.

First thing I’d recommend is that you should stop drinking poison if you’ve drunk enough to recognise its taste!

The £12 whiskey in Aldi is the best whiskey you can get and probably the cheapest too. Don't bother overpaying on this stupidly overpriced ****e.

Same here John, can't even stand the smell of the stuff, and if I drank any I'd be immediately gagging.

I don't like whisky like Bells, Famous Grouse, Glenmorangie, Johnnie Walker and Glenfiddich. However, I do like some of the single malts. My favourite is Oban. Arbour is good.

I never drank Oban until my father in law won a competition to play Dennis Taylor in about 1988 at the opening of a snooker club in Oldham. He scored the highest total against Dennis that night - 9! His prize was a box of five miniature whiskies, of which Oban was one. Lagavulin was another. That's much more peaty. After that, I never drank a blend again. Strangely though, my father in law only drank Famous Grouse.

I'm the same with whiskey but quite like bourbon whiskey with coke. Cannot stand it straight. Don't like any spirits whatsoever,I just drink beer. Proper beer. And occasionally a bit of red.

I like Jura Origin, Glenmorangie and Oban but visited the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in Hunmanby and got a bottle of their "Maturing Spirit" (can't call it whisky until its at least 3 years old and this stuff is only one year old), I rather like it, and think they are one to watch. Very interesting tour of the place available if your are near.

Knob Creek bourbon is my favourite. It's a Jim Beam.

They do a single barrel version but it's twice the price and inferior imo. At 60% it's just a tad too fiery.

Speyside I like and one I tried recently I can't remember the name of, maybe because I drank too much of it.

I once had a bottle of Jura given as a gift.
Not really a whiskey man, but as you do, I manned up and drank it.
Remember thinking single malt was nicer than blended.
Woke up in my own vomit.
    Can’t remember much else.

All tastes and smells like Bells to me.

Which I got completely ****faced on when I was 16.

Have tried some single malts, but, tasted like Bells.

Although, last time I tried it, was when I didn't like gin either, and that's certainly changed.

Might need to try some again, just to see.

Oh and Chazz, read your PMs you bellend.

Hate to admit this but I've yet to come across an alcoholic drink I don't like or can't get used to. :emoticon-0138-think
