The main reason why is a combination of turning down a series of plum roles - MASH, The French Connection, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Kramer vs Kramer and Blade Runner among them - coupled with how, when his sister died of leukemia, he picked up a particularly bad coke habit to deal with his depression After all that, plus spearing his car headlong into a tree off Sunset Boulevard, he was planning on retiring on the nest egg he'd built up...until he realised the nest egg wasn't there anymore
Never again will he let anyone outside the family know what he's thinking... He was originally going to play Michael but eventually lost out to Al Pacino. Hard to imagine as both were perfect as they were cast in the film. RIP
TV a presenters and commentators do not get an easy time on here, which is understandable given that so many are up their own arses, clueless or just “experts” because they played the game for a couple of years, so it’s with sadness that today we said goodbye to one of the best presenters of many years - Sue Barker. If only some of the football people were like Sue, who has for 30years been the voice of Wimbledon. Very professional, very nice and very likeable. Enjoy your retirement, they don’t make them like you any more.
