That must depend on which region of the country you live in? Didn't Whiteley spend a lot of time on regional news programmes? I expect in this neck of the woods Fred Dineage would be right up their for similar reasons
True, but it all counts. Whiteley did regional news in Yorkshire, but presented Countdown 200 times+ times a year for 20 years+ - that takes some beating. Carol Vorderman must be up there too! please log in to view this image
I am not denying Whitelys credentials, just saying that in the South Dineage has been a fixture on our screens for nearly 50 years, as regional news anchor (5 days a week at least 40 weeks of the year), on HOW, Southern and Southsport Soccer (the local version of The Big Match) he was even the host of World of Sport when Dickie Davies was absent in the 70s. So I would guess that he is probably in the top 5.
Yay! I'm 57 - I think. I kind of know within one year how old I am, but only my exact age when it's nearer my birthday.
I've know for a few years that Mrs B went to primary school with Neil Ardley. She also went to senior school with Samantha Mullery, so I've always thought of Neil Ardley as a minor thing of little importance. However, a mate and neighbour, who supports Wimbledon, told me this afternoon that he lives at the end of my road............I think he's stalking Mrs B.....
"Every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never comin' round". I didn't think that police officer was looking for a different reply to his comment "Turn around".
Yes.Wood Green Town played there. So did me and my mates. One lived next to the ground and we'd jump over and it was 5 a side. Spurs played at the White Hart pub Lane. Used to be a nice pub! Me and my mates used to play 2 a side in that old open tarmaced playing court the players used to use. I remember Eddy Baily kicking some lose wood one day. His language was very foreign to our young ears....whilst Ron Burgess went into a fit of laughter!
The programme on the history of the The Corinthians, Brothers in Football is on tonight.Brilliant, moving story and great television documentary. The FA should hold their combined heads in shame. Fortunately, the Brazilians Corinthian have a much greater sense of history and their roots in football,
Cheers Smithy, I thought it was. Went there a few times mainly when some of the Spurs lads played in charity matches. Nice little ground which really is in White Hart Lane! Felt sorry for Haringey last night, cruel ending.
I think this ground is in Wood Green side of White Hart Lane.I believe opposite was a passage to more houses and a playing field, passing a bakery on the way. I was born opposite the church on Jolly Butchers Hill.
Yes, definitely Wood Green end of White Hart Lane which, as you know, is a very long lane all the way from Wood Green to Tottenham. The Wonderloaf Bakery (Spillers flour graders, 'nice one Cyril' & all that) was that end but on other side of road. Do you remember the pretty tennis courts, several of them each with own unique clubhouse? These were right up the Wood Green end, I went there often. I also recall lots of post war prefabs that end. I remember Jolly Butchers Hill very well so know where you were born...
