After a long midweek trip to Bolton, next up for Pompey is… a long weekend trip to Bolton. Yes, just a few days after being narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals of the Papa Johns Trophy, they head back to the same venue for a League One contest. The hosts currently sit fifth in the standings, with 10 more points than the Blues, having played three games more. Wanderers are currently on a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions and have not conceded in their past three fixtures. They were most recently in league action last Saturday, playing out a goalless draw with table-topping Plymouth on home soil. Indeed, only two sides – Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford – have taken maximum points away from the University of Bolton Stadium this season. It finished 1-1 in the corresponding fixture last season, with Aiden O’Brien’s opener cancelled out by a Kieran Sadlier penalty. And Pompey have not lost any of the last five league meetings between the sides – a run that stretches back to 2009. TEAM NEWS Pompey remain without Tom Lowery (hamstring), Jay Mingi (knee), Joe Rafferty (stomach) and Jayden Reid (knee), while Marlon Pack is suspended. But new signing Ryley Towler could make his debut, while Clark Robertson (hip) has returned to full training. Jack Iredale and George Thomason are both missing for the hosts with knee injuries and there are doubts over the fitness of Gethin Jones. Dapo Afolayan is on his way out of the club, but Dan Nlundulu could feature after arriving on loan from Southampton. Pompey give a league debut to young ex-Spurs keeper Josh Oluwayemi following Josh Griffith's loan return to WBA. Michael Jacobs starts the match, and new signing Ryley Towler is on the bench. Also on the bench is 17 year old ex-academy keeper Toby Steward.
Michael Morrison left in space to get on the end of Michael Jacobs' corner, but he sends his header just past the post
Half time whistle. 1-0 to Bolton. We have been under the cosh most of the half, but Michael Morrison should have scored an equaliser for us.

Genuine relegation form. As it stands we will be closer to the relegation zone than the playoff by virtue of both points and league position. Worrying times
Not wanting to be the harbinger of bad tidings..... Take the as it stands table and repeat the current form table (last six games) and that would leave us in 19th place, four points above the relegation zone. With the transfer window closing at the end of the month, a new manager is going to have to work with the current team, which is now on a losing streak and devoid of confidence, and get them through the rest of the season with the target of 'staying up'. I would so like to be way off the mark of course.....
Triple change for Pompey: Reeco Hackett, Ronan Curtis and new boy Ryley Towler on for Michael Jacobs, Michael Morrison and Denver Hume. 66 minutes.
