Pompey Academy continued their winning start to the Merit League with a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth.

Harrison Brook teed-up Alfie Bridgman (pictured) to open the scoring in the first half, with Brook then finding the target himself after the break.

Baylin Johnson reduced the Cherries’ deficit, but Harvey Rew nodded home from a corner in the closing stages to wrap up the points.

Professional development phase coach Liam Daish said: “I was really happy with the lads and we played some impressive stuff – particularly going forward.

“The goals came from things we’d been working on during training and that was particularly pleasing.

“For the first, we pressed and won the ball back and it was good work from Harrison on the left to deliver for Alfie.

“It’s nice to see him getting into those dangerous areas in and around the box. That’s something we’ve been asking for him to do.

“Dan Gifford then showed good awareness to get on the end of a loose clearance and send Kristian Dawson away. It was a great ball through for Harrison to finish well.

“It was a scruffy goal that we conceded, but Harvey lost his marker from a corner to head home and secure the win.

“Bournemouth are always a dangerous team to play against, but I thought that we thoroughly deserved the result.”
