I take it you haven't travelled to or from the EUROPEAN UNION since 2016 . Absolutely zero difference
Exactly this ^^ Even if you go somewhere like the States, you maybe asked at customs how you will support your stay and how much currency have you got on you. It's always been like that, even if you've not been challenged on it. One time you could travel even without prebooked accomodation, but even that changed and you had to be able to prove at least your first nights stay. Some airlines would ask for proof of that before departure.
“EU/EEA* Citizens only Suisse Passports “ Sometimes states *EER and depending on region , there is agreements to go through same area as above ie Nordic countries have an agreement to accept their passports or official residency cards. these queues can use auto scanners . The other queues where you must get it stamped- “all other passports” They need to automate and digitise the Visa stamp - self scan and add a digital tag to your electronic passport that logs itself date , time , country etc . Even automate the stamp application (stamp , sticker etc ) if they want a physical mark on the passport. Then the customs staff would / could just monitor the screens and pull suspect folk and or pick at random . there’s no reason to have you walk up and get passport stamped . The questions don’t offer any really insight into your visit .

What you think your biometric passport is ? It’s a digital ID with all your relevant data stored on it ,to allow you to travel, hence you can scan it through barriers / at customs etc. it has your name , dob , digitised photo , digitised signature etc so, I’m not asking for anything , simply stating they can use it to stop the need for physical stamps . Its already digital , so add a marker for visa purposes . No need for physical / personal interactions .
I had it pre-Covid though? You're asking to make the experience even more digital. I was under the impression that was a big deal.
It’s used for travel , and some cases formal ID. When else do you use it ? They’re already storing that travel data , ie when you arrived , from where etc , digitally . So no need for a physical stamp ? what I’m wary of is an actual digital ID with all your data that you need to use everyday . Used in China as a use case example. You must present your ID / your face at every opportunity. I’ve always said technology is powerful if used for progression and for efficiency etc the problem lies with those who will access your data and what they use it / want it for . I’m aware , unless you are off grid , youre deep in the system . I said it during Covid , you have a digital passport , a phone and use internet . They know you . There’s a big difference in digital I’d for travel v digital ID for everyday imo . You think differently.
