ASHP can only convert water to a max temp of 55° whereas a normal gas boiler operates at 80° so that mean all your rads would be undersized.

You can pick a boiler up for £500 or you can pay at least 10 times that for a decent ASHP.

You can get round the undersized radiators by sticking a fan convector on it but there you go wasting electricity.

My mates house is a three hundred year old farmhouse and he was quoted £8500 for exterior insulation, so I'm guessing that £10k is a fair average. If an individual house costs £10k and delivers a 25% saving on energy then the figures stack up! a £500 per annum saving for a £10k outlay - 5% return. Don't take my word, ask the sex pest.

House built in the last 20 years won't need it. I built mine in 2017 and my total energy cost for 2020 was under £500.
