He needs to get decent players to want to come here, but how? What is the incentive for good players to come here if the wages are going to be modest and the risk of relegation high? One possibility is a marquee signing up front to show everyone we mean business like he did with Prozzy, but a marquee signing in this division costs big bucks and big wages. Then of course other players and agents will see us as a soft touch and try to take the piss. So if you were trying to sell HCAFC to an EPL quality player how would you do it?
SB is experienced in this League, so i'm sure he's got players lined up. We've had reports about who we've supposed to have bid for, but I haven't seen any official confirmation yet that we was after those players.
It's not really attracting players to Hull City, the problem we're having at the moment is offering the right amount of money for the transfer fee. We haven't really got to personal terms with anyone (apart from Figueroa who's apparently accepted and his arrival is imminent). I think just the fact that we're a Premier League team will have a lot of influence on the players decision to join us. Though, attracting players from other Premier League Clubs may be difficult. I think we'd need to ensure first team football and a relegation release Clause to a few players to help persuade them to come to the KC.
I believe SB is the marquee signing! Still a long way to go yet, I'm confident he'll entice the players he wants to come to us. Players want to play for good managers.
To an extent we have the same problems we had last time we got up. For me Location Is a major Issue, I know Hull isn't a bad place, But it's got a crappy reputation. Given the choice If you were a potential EPL player with WAG in tow, would you rather go to a London/Manchester club or Hull? Thats why the whole 'Players must live local' idea is a bit silly. What we have to stay clear of is ending up with more Cousin's, King's who don't care about the club just their pay packets. Personally I'd maybe try looking into some of the Championships better players, At least if theyr'e stepping up they have something to prove. One Thing we have got in our favour this time round is a well respected manager, And one who has not done badly in the PL in the past. He's certainly going to have his work cut out.
Any real competition for players we wan't to sign WILL NOT be coming from a Manchester Club, we would never be after plays City or United want, unless you're reffering to Oldham but they're ****. London clubs aren't likely to be after the same signatures as us apart from Palace and Fulham, West Ham. Stoke, Norwich, Southampton, West Brom, Cardiff etc are the sort of teams players we want will probably be wanted by also, and lets be honest neither are favourable places to live, but where is in the UK for a WAG, London?. The live local rule is so that we get players who want to come play football and the fact they're local means they will be much better rested and can have a much better relationship with the other players. Plenty of nice houses in East Yorkshire for them, but we need passionate players coming to play for the club not for a decent wage packet so they can enjoy their Range Rover Sports after training on the drive back to Chesire/London. I think the idea of it is appealing to players as it shows the club want them by asking them to move local.
It must be hard for SB firstly he as to attract players who he thinks are good enough but knows if any other clubs in the premier compete with us then its likely we will lose out. Our location does not help, we are favourites to go back down and because of this and the fact that we have to base contracts on a basis of wages for staying in the premier league/wages for going down must not be easy. The other problem of course is getting decent strikers in, just this week we have offered 4.5 million for Hooper with is wage demands it could easily cost 7 or 8 million in total which for us is a lot of money but to some clubs its nothing and this is for one player. Of course you have to spend so much otherwise you don't give yourself a chance. he as got to get the balance right hope he can attract decent players, he as got a good name so lets hope he can do well in a difficult situation
We should be able to mop up the best Champ players as the ffp rules will be squeezing many clubs to off load high earners.Build a good squad to survive or bounce back if relegated. Avoid over extending ourselves. Watch how Lesta/Wolves and Blackburn turn out when they hand in their accounts for next season.
That's a bit pessimistic Putter - maybe you're only joking. I'm sure we'll get some signings. I think the request for players to live locally is a good idea for a lot of sound football performance related reasons but also from a community perspective. For a club that is not going to be competing in the big money stakes in the foreseeable future, it is a good idea in my view to try and turn what some people see as a disadvantage - namely location - into a positive. Team and club spirit and connection to the community is the best way to do that. I think SB will bring in some relatively exciting prospects. They may not be "marquis" signings but if they match the ethos, the team can - and this has been proven before (Forrest and Clough come to mind if I've got the history right) - have more than minimal success. THAT is what SB needs to sell.
Dont see the problem myself. Relegation battle applies to 12 of the PL teams every august. Steve Bruce knows what he is doing.
Try for the best the championship/SPL has to offer,a couple of old experienced old timers, loans,id gamble with an expensive stricker and yet unknown players abroad as well. Gotta include Leeds,Harrogate etc in living local thing too.
I think the Hooper, Figueroa and Schmeichel signings were supposed to be done early as a statement of intent and that would probably have aided us with additional signings.
Good question this, we have no specific pull over other PL teams. I'd suggest we have to pick our targets carefully. There will be certain players who our rivals aren't interested in and hopefully those players will sign for us. Also you have to unearth hidden gems like Swansea did with Michu, no one else will have been competing for that signature will they?
OLM has this one spot on. SB was trying to get some signings in early which helps bring others as they know the quality we would be bringing in which in turns shows intent. Sadly, Mr Allem and Co are doing what we dont want but know it is the right thing to do....buy prudently, pay wisely and secure contracts on short term deals and hopefully with relegation clauses. This way, we wont get in the same ****e we did last time. If that means not getting anyone in and going down with Zero points then so be it...the Championship is the best league in the world anyway :-(
