Time to build some league momentum, here's hoping for a good run ! Kick off: Saturday 2nd February 15:00 pm Location: Turf Moor Officials (Thanks SaintDon!): Referee: Anthony Taylor Assistants: Gary Beswick, Adam Nunn Fourth official: Martin Atkinson Southampton: Team news: Ryan Bertrand will be available for selection and Saints fans may hope for a signing to help bolster the squad. Mario Lemina is extremely doubtful to be available and Obafemi is out. Yoshida is still away at the Asian Cup. Win probability: 34 % Top scorer: Danny Ings (8) Games since a clean sheet: 4 Games since a Saints away win: 0 Current position: 16th League form: LDWWD Burnley: Team news: Brady, Defour, Lennon and Lowton are all long term absentees. Burnley are likely to name an unchanged side from that which drew at Old Trafford. Burnley will include new signing Peter Crouch in their squad. Win probability: 36 % Top scorer: Ashley Barnes (5) Games since a clean sheet: 3 Games since a Burnley home win: 0 Games since a Burnley home defeat: 4 Current position: 17th League form: WWWDD Outlook: 16th v 17th - Southampton will again play a team from around them in the league, however their opposition Burnley are in fine form and will be disappointed with their draw at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Burnley seem to have recaptured some of their solidity while youngster McNeil and Heaton have been in sparkling form and the return of Wood has added their aerial goal threat, something Southampton will have to be wary of this weekend. After three home games Saints will face a very different test at Turf Moor and will have to hope that they perform better than against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, however they will not have to face such blistering pace from the Burnley attack though Ashley Barnes will be a nuisance. This game feels like one not for the faint hearted and I fancy a 1-0 either way - hoping it is for Southampton obviously !
Saints to select someone the fans don’t agree with, start poorly, go 1-0 down and the sky to fall in. Saints don't need pressure but patience from fans - Hasenhuttl
Going to this one, hopefully the roads will be open. Planning to drink pre match in Burnley Cricket Club. I don't do predictions but we might have a few...
No point pressing from the front in this game either. Burnley play hoof ball up to their forwards so will need to sit a bit deeper with three big CB’s heading everything. They will play for deadball situations so they can bring the big lads up from the back and lump it into the box Dyche is very much a deciple of Pulis and Big Sam Not going to be pretty but as long as we get at least a point, I would be happy
Yeah another tough game coming up that doesn't on paper suit the way we like to play. Shame we arent playing Burnley from a month back. They're bang on form at the moment.
We played the crap Burnley at the start of the season and managed not to win. Lets see how we fair now. Being away from home suits us, so I'm pretty confident. (it being thursday morning)
Got a really good feeling that we are going to sneak this 2-1. Not based on anything but wishful thinking though!
You’ll have to wait until Saints lose, that’s how it has always worked. You should actually be hoping you don’t get a chance for a while!
Ralph said that you can't play the same way against every team....and that we would have got thrashed if we pressed too hard up the pitch. May mean a similar game to that v CP (as you suggest). Be great to get 3 points, but very important to get anything against the teams around us before having a spurt of wins subsequently.
Thought a 5pt return from CP, Tykes & Bluebirds would be a very reasonable return. Nothing changed. RH is learning more & more about us (all) & has us progressing in a positive fashion. Green shoots & all that.
Apologies if posted elsewhere...summary of Ralph's presser. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019...ound-up-burnley-vs-saints-premier-league-1819
