I thought he was outstanding last night, a superb display showing grit and determination and deservedly man of the match. To be fair, the whole team played well and Wickham was a very close runner up to Catt's for me, Larsson put some graft in as well, shame some of his corners and free kicks were poor. Catt's has been pretty consistent all season, but yesterday he stepped it up a notch and we need that same level against City on Wednesday. If we'd had someone around him with a bit of creativity we might have nicked that game, maybe Alvares can fill that slot?
I still think we need Briddo alongside him in games like this, we ask too much of him, fortunately Jos and Brown were also at their best today, but can they repeat it against City, it is a massive ask.
Catts head and shoulders above everybody in a very good team effort, and as you say Connor played pretty well as a special mention.
Catts is a player that could be in demand from one of the top sides in January....Hope not, but wouldn't surprise me
Wouldn't fault anybody on that performance. Catts was superb, Santi immense, JOS & Wes kept Costa quiet. Rev he's usual cool calm collected self, Seb n Connor ran their socks off. Fletch didn't get much service but battled well. Overall, brilliant. Now the lads know they can hit that level that is the benchmark. With Giacch and Ricky coming back with some creativity things are looking positive.
I don't know about that I think he knows as well as we do he's not playing for England because he plays for Sunderland and I'm sure his reputation would fade away if he was at say Liverpool.
I can see him being in demand for sure, but i can't see Gus letting him leave, he's been our best player so far this season and you don't get rid of your best players if you want to succeed. I think he'll build on it and add that much needed creativity and hopefully a striker.
He's not playing for England cos of his disciplinary record mate, plus we have a lot of pretty good midfielders to choose from at the minute. I love Cattermole but i'm not so sure he's ready for the England team just yet.
Have been a critic of him in the past, am not ashamed to say he,s proved me well wrong. Catts was superb and overall the team put in a massive shift, we maybe could and should have pinched it, doesn't,t get any easier, Citeh midweek, Liverpool at the weekend, haway the lads
Thought the same thing about the catts last night, wonder when his contract is up.....pen to paper s.a.f.c a.s.a.p ktf.
He got 5 years from o'Neill so has 2 or 3 left I think. Best business o'Neill did and I said it at the time. Others certainly slated him constantly. His discipline hasn't been anywhere near as bad for us as most think. And let's compare all of his yellow and red cards with Costas kick out yesterday... None anywhere near as bad. He's booked cos he's cattermole. No other reason. I love watching him play. He captains the side without the band. I hope he finishes his career here personally but thnk one of the big boys may come knocking and that will put him in the England frame.
Right, I've had a ****ing cracking weekend & I'm not gonna let nee **** spoil it. Especially the mag slags. Catts was indeed class but Santi edged it for me. Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday. Santiago Baby & Remy she said no, two great chants. Hardly noticed Costa was playing.
To me Catts was man of the match by a country mile followed closely by O'Shea but the main thing was the team performance. Couldn't fault anymore in terms of effort and committment. Best I have seen for a long time against one of the best teams I have seen for a long time. Wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea has the EPL wrapped up by the time Santa comes....
Passing let him down but that's not what this game was about. 2 take ons, both completed, won over 50% of his tackles without giving away a single freekick. 3 interceptions, 4 clearances, and 3 blocks is fantastic protection. Almost everything which came down the middle from Chelsea was limited to long balls easily delt with by our defence. He was Great but Vergini took my man of the match.
