Would that arsehole have felt enabled to do that if there weren't hundreds running on with him? Shame for the rest, but it's part of the problem.
for those that don't remember, after play-offs were re-introduced in 1987, they initially involved three teams aiming to get promoted along with a team from the higher division hoping not to get relegated. chelsea suffered relegation after losing the two-legged final to middlesbrough in 1989 and their fans were NOT happy. imagine what thousands of not happy chelsea fans are going to do. and they did. and so the play-offs, after two seasons, no longer include a team from the higher division. because of chelsea hooliganism. chelsea walked the falling season in the second flight, as it happens.
Not either / or to me. Should be both. Meaning legal system for the assault. Football related punishments for the club and fan. More needs doing with these invasions and throwing stuff. No good waiting until someone is seriously hurt or worse. No relevance whatsoever to today in harking back to the 70's or whenever. Im still waiting to hear about what's being done following Leeds v Man City recently when fans where chucking stuff at Man City players throughout the match. Hell of a message being sent if tough action isn't taken.
Tbh this clip has far less context of who instigated the incident than the clip of a Forest fan running directly at a stationary Billy Sharp who was minding his own business with his arms folded on the touch line. Fans goad players all the time. Like someone said on another thread, being a footballer is one of the few professions where it’s standard practice to receive abuse for 90 mins and you’re expected to take it. When fans invade the pitch and start goading players without a wall of stewards to protect them, tensions boil over and sometimes the players react.
Sometimes managers react even when it's their own fans. Remember Clough? If coked up nobheads rush on the pitch aggressively towards players then they're going to justifiably feel attacked and provoked. It's not the same as celebrating. If they weren't there with hostile intent they'd be no-where near the opposition players.
True. Clough could’ve punched the Queen in the jaw and got her to apologise for coming too close to him though.
Something similar happened after the Huddersfield and Luton game when Huddersfield fans invaded the pitch. Luton players were clapping their fans when a bunch of Huddersfield fans came over and started goading the Luton players and away end, rather than celebrate with their own players.
Sheff Utd should sack the player with immediate effect and the police should be interviewing him as we speak.
In any case, not the first time people from Nottingham crossed a line. Scab ****s. No wonder Clough clouted them.
Bollocks. He was threatened by fans trespassing and committing a criminal act. It was like something off ****ing Zulu.
Probably. But if I had a load of forest charging at me I'd not exactly be greeting them with hugs either.
