Morrisons display reminded me of Evina v Brum truly abysmal but he ain't a right back so don't blame him
I booed, as did a fair few around me. Don't like to boo our players but don't see him as one of us, he's a useless tool. And agree Morro and right back should never meet again. hopefully Wilson back on Saturday but if not then I'd rather put Cousins in, Harriott out left and JJ back in middle.
No, there isn't. We have not had a specialist right-back in the u21s for three seasons (other than Cousins). From the fact none of the u18s has even been tried there in the u21s it would seem none of them are remotely near first team football. We have been using out-of-position players there (Osborne and Muldoon) this season and various triallists last season. Cousins has played a lot there for the u18s and at various levels for England and would be more than competent, but: 1) It would have been better to give him a couple of games there at u21 level as a refresher (which is clearly not possible), and 2) That would leave another gaping hole in our midfield. Now Poyet and Jackson would seem a balanced CM pairing, more so than Poyet and Cousins. But that would mean we have midfielders at R and L who contribute nothing to defending. You can sometimes get away with one like that against weak opponents, but not two. We already have too many in the match-day squad who can only be effective for 30 to 60 minutes, which is why we fade most games. I have been posting all season since Solly's injury that our first priority should be to sign a right-back (to restore Wilson to RM). An omission by Powell, but a downright blunder by RD/JR which could cost us our Championship status. We don' have any teams as feeble as Yeovil still to play.
Cheers Eddie... would you therefore go with Cousins at RB...? Given that we have no specialist RB, why not 3-5-2...? I've made no secret of the fact that I really like this formation, and with Poyet thriving as a deep lying CM, this set up would suit him and negate the fact we have no RB. For sure Morro's RB misery was compounded by having Ajdarevic in front of him. There's no doubt the latter is an extremely gifted player with two good feet and plenty of vision. However, when we haven't got the ball he is a complete luxury. 3-5-2 with Ajdarevic in an advanced CM role ought to allow us to keep him further up field where he can do the most damage.
what about poyet as a sweeper? in a 1-2-4-1-2 formation? Poyet; Morrison, Dorian; Wiggins, Jackson, cousins, Harriot; AA; Reza, Sordell?
Ooooooooh... I do love a sweeper Cafc. I grew up in awe watching the likes of Danny Blind and the legendary Franco Baresi. I've no doubt that Poyet would be an absolute revolution in that sort of role. However, I thought 3-5-2 was a bit out there in our current predicament so maybe 1-2-4-1-2 is a little bit too big a shift in strategy. Having said that... I'd love to see it given a go.
