I was re-reading the Flashman books on holiday. All very good reads IMHO. Also started the Rivers of London series which are Urban fantasy so maybe not everyones cup of tea but I like them.
Just downloaded "The Terror" from kindle, 900 pages. I know the books often better than the film/series which i'm hoping for.
Just finished an audio book - ''I Alone Can Fix It'' it's a resume of the final year of the Trump presidency, written by Washington Post, Pulitzer prize winning authors Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker - it portrays a staggering, and almost unbelievable picture, of one mans loss of any grasp on reality. The Epilogue, which is the record of a two and a half hour interview at with the man himself at his fiefdom in Mar-a-Lago has to be heard (or read) to be believed. Also finished a 'real' book, ''Remain In Love'' by the Talking Heads drummer, Chris Frantz - he's a good story teller and talks about the early days of the band and performing in CBGB's and other New York clubs, he also writes of touring with The Ramones; he gives his version of the bands break up, it's probably safe to say Mr Byrne and he aren't exchanging cards at Christmas. Can recommend both.
Jordan Peterson 12 Rules for life Good book and a fascinating man. Worth you tubing his interviews. Takes a bbc reporter to the cleaners on one
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel Historical novel about Thomas Cromwell & Henry VIII, if you missed the TV series
Took me about 4 go's to get into it but once I did I was hooked and got straight through part 2, Bring Up the Bodies. Part 3, The Mirror and the Light, different kettle of fish. I'd say she was being paid by the word for that one, could have easily been half the size.
The Greatest Raid of All Time. the story of the raid in WW2 on the giant dry dock in St Nazaire. Five VC's won out of 600 men and officers. If it wasn't for being recorded in history you'd think it was a film plot.
Spot Plays football is my current favourite night time read, : spoiler alert , its a draw........Spot Goes Shopping is ok but not quite got the same intensity.
Apart from the annual Jack Reacher novel on the beach sun lounger, I have never been able to sit still long enough to read. Reading this thread shows me how much I am missing out on. I am approaching retirement, so what better opportunity? So I need to make myself read. First will be the Ragged Trousers Philanthropist, which I have never got round to finishing. I also need to return to Lee Childs 'The Sentinel', which I started but abandoned. After that, reading this thread I fancy the Jim Leighton triology. Also the Stasi series (he's one of our own). I hope these have lots of pictures.
on a serious note , im not much of a reader but do like autobiographies. Alan Brazil was the last one i read, leads some life that guy, just basically on the piss from 10am after his shows or in a champagne tent somewhere. best story when he got fired from talksport for getting pissed up at the races and not turning up , he told the receptionist at the hotel before going out , make sure you wake me up at 3am, whatever happens make sure its 3 am then i can still get down too london for my show. when waking up at 5am, he goes mad at the receptionist, i told you to wake me up at 3am, why didnt you wake me up! the receptionist said i couldnt wake you up Mr Brazil at 3am , you didnt get back in until 4.30am
