Ched Evans wins rape conviction appeal Footballer Ched Evans has won his appeal against a conviction for rape, but will face a new trial.
No reason not too if he is fit and good enough. When he is found not guilty I hope they prosecute the woman who made the whole thing up.... But they won't and they will let her remain anonymous. The law of this country always favours the gender that runs on chemicals and hormones rather than common sense.
The case against him was flimsy at best, I think the least he deserves is a retrial to be honest. I aren't saying he isn't a complete tool, but then a good percentage of footballers are, I'm just not entirely sure what the conviction was based on.
Not often we agree Glory, but you're spot on here. I too would happily have him in our team if he wins the re-trial. Rumour was that prior to conviction he was a decent player who would stand out at least at championship level. So why not get him on a short contract with an understanding of an extension if he delivered as before
Yep, its like starting all over again. His conviction is spent though (well, he won't go back to jail)
Waste of money.... There must be reasonable doubt or they wouldn't have binned the conviction..... The head of the CPS will lose their job over this case. it only came to court because of Evans's profile and his money... He refused to buy her off.
She was too drunk to consent, but he was a real twat in court by all accounts and rubbed everyone up the wrong way...
Yes, and effectively face a further prison sentence if things go very wrong. Also, the double jeopardy law that you can't be tried for the same crime has also been abolished.
His conviction has been quashed on the basis of fresh evidence being brought forward. This made his already dubious conviction unsafe, and the re-trial will be a procession. The court of appeal won't have quashed his conviction without good cause, and the new evidence was obviously compelling. There's zero chance of him facing a further prison sentence.
Whether he's a tw*t or not (and i have no doubt he is), that doesn't make him guilty of rape. In my opinion and it is only my opinion from what i've heard and footage i've seen, i don't understand how he was found guilty.
I have to say if 2 p*ssed up people can have sex, and later on its treated as rape when there's been no forcing into it from either person or crying rape, its a scary scenario.
