Delighted for the lad,a terrible miscarriage of justice and to think he should be playing tonight against the Russians, just hope he works his way back to the top.
On This Day in 1942: Anne Frank turned 13. For her birthday, she received a diary and then began writing in it. please log in to view this image
"Dear Diary, so excited to be able to put my thoughts onto paper at last. Today was warm and sunny, Mama and I went down to the local market but not much on offer what with the war and that. Lots of Nazis walking about the place obviously worse for drink and I saw them throwing chairs around and shouting "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" to the Russians. I was rather perplexed at one chant which I am sure went something like "Half a world war and no world cup" but the poor chap didn't look the full ticket. Back home and found Papa up in the loft with a load of timber and plaster board. I asked him what was going on but he didn't say much, only that we'd soon be needing somewhere out of the way. A lot of mattresses and pillows up there too. I asked Papa if we were planning a holiday but his face turned rather pale at this suggestion and he left muttering something about trains. Odd because Uncle Abraham and his wife Ruth went off on a train a short while ago and we've not even had a post card. See you soon, love Anne."
Wonderful news, so happy for the lad. It's testament to his character that he hasn't let this crush him and he's fought against the injustice for 4 years, whilst refusing to let embittered and resentful armchair detectives get to him. Even though he should be at the Euros scoring hat tricks, signing for Chesterfield is a huge step in the right direction to becoming the most feared striker (on the pitch) once again.
