Don't think it's been that bad. I think it looked pretty good when Cahill has not been a part of it. I also think you can't have fabregas in part of the 2 (can in part of a 3) as you need 2 dynamic players. Also you need 2 wingbacks who can attack/take players on. Alonso is fine for this although playing poorly. Whenever Conte puts Dave at WB, it fails as he's just isn't good enough going forward (even though he has a lot of assists, but thats cause he has time on the ball to swing the crosses in when he comes from deep!).
Writing of Gary Cahill, when he was sent off against Burnley our defence became a shambles and we conceded 3 goals before half time. Against Roma he was substituted and our defence became a shambles again with 3 of our defenders chasing one Roma player as if they were school kids. We seem far better defensively with Cahill on the pitch rather than off it.
Maybe the rearranging of in game formations is not helping the defence reorganise (especially rearranging a few players). Against Burnley we were down to 10. Against Roma we were 2 down already. I would say we've only kept 1 CS with Cahill (PL games) and kept 3 without him
All valid points from the last few posters, I'll start a new thread on Where we go now, beginning with United?
