5:30 Southwell, Bobby Dassler - 1pt win 10/3 generally Yet to win in 8 starts, but he's run well in some nice maidens over in Ireland for his former hard, and caught the eye with a big run on the front end over a mile in his first handicap race as a 3yo. He's now trained by the Tom Ward team who have an excellent record with it's new recruits, which on the all-weather alone stands at 27.78% (5 wins from 18). This will be BD's second try on an artificial surface, and being the one horse in the field that might be better than all of his rivals, I think this nice-looking son of 'Atwaad' looks worth risking. 7:00 Southwell, Vespasian - 1pt win 11/4 generally Has shown bright speed over 6f the last twice including from a wide draw on his latest run and trying to make all, setting good fractions and only getting collared late on by two very much in form rivals. He drops to 5f tomorrow, and although not guaranteed to get an easy lead against pretty much a whole field that also like to lead, he's at least proven to get a strongly run 5f whereas a few of his rivals are not. Of the others' Tolstoy' whom we had two starts back and ran well, should be the one horse to benefit from a strongly run race. But he's a quirky individual and isn't guaranteed to repeat his run here earlier in the month. 8:30 Southwell, Daafy - 1pt e/w 9/1 generally Was in good form prior to running well below par last time where, despite finishing in 11th place, I'm happy to forgive that run as he got bumped in to down the back straight and was never travelling thereafter. He's a hold-up horse that needs everything to fall right being is a hostage to a strong pace, but that looks guaranteed with tomorrow's line-up and with my only real concern being his tricky one draw for a hold-up horse, so long as he gets the strong early pace and they sort themselves out early from the gate and reducing traffic problems, then I think he should have conditions to suit. The short priced fav will be hard to beat, but under a 10lb penalty for his two recent runs, I'm willing to take him on with an each-way poke.

The stable have plenty to gauge this chap on and he goes to post here expected to go very close 14:50 Gowran Park, Darrens Hope 0.5pt win 0.5pt place 15:20 Southwell, Walking On Clouds 1pt win 16:25 Gowran Park, Ankud 1pt win

Another day of winners 11.40 Cheltenham – Comfort Zone – generally 5/2 The winning margin of a neck last time didn’t reflect his superiority over the field at Chepstow, where he travelled all over the field and having quickened a few lengths clear he was then almost reeled in by the runner up. Sure to be played a little later today, he’ll also appreciate the better ground as it was very testing that day, as it can be at Chepstow. His previous 3rd at Fairyhouse was very strong form and he’s probably better than that run as well, as he didn’t get the clearest passage having been ridden quietly. He looks likely to cement the Irish stranglehold on the Triumph Hurdle market. 12.10 Cheltenham – Panic Attack (e/w) Generally 15/2 Top 4 Places with Skybet, Paddy Power, Corals, Unibet, Betfred. A progressive mare, who looks to have improved since sent chasing, winning on her debut over the larger obstacles and running very well when a staying on 3rd at Kempton. She’ll certainly appreciate this stiffer test of stamina and has already proven herself at Cheltenham having won here over hurdles. She can still prove to be pretty well handicapped off a mark of 130 and looks to have a lot in her favour here. 12.40 Cheltenham – Easysland (e/w) Already Advised at 10/1 Whilst his form figures aren’t exactly inspiring of late, he’s potentially thrown in off a mark of 134, returning to cross country races. A winner at the Festival in 2020 when beating Tiger Roll, he then returned here in one of these handicaps off a rating of 167 and wasn’t beaten far at all giving away huge amounts of weight. He’s been tried over trips too short, over hurdles and over conventional fences, which he just doesn’t quite jump well enough, albeit he showed a fair amount of zest last time and only faded in the home straight. This looks to have been a well made plan and off 134 he can’t go unbacked. – He has been well supported in the market, unsurprisingly. 1.50 Cheltenham – Your Darling (e/w) – generally 6/1 & Top 5 Places. A really impressive winner on his return at Kempton where he annihilated his field to win as he liked by and the winning margin could easily have been trebled had he not been heavily eased. Ridden very patiently last time over 3 miles, he crept into the race nicely and looked to come with a potentially winning run before his stamina gave way. A notebook horse from that run, where he suggested he wanted to step back in trip to 2 ½ miles which he does here, a trip that suits him best, he looks to hold strong claims in what is a pretty good Cheltenham handicap. 2.32 Uttoxeter – Go Dante – generally 9/4 Looks to be potentially thrown in here off a mark of 128 for his reappearance, having run his final race last season in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury behind Stage Star. He’d previously been beaten at a short price by a progressive Nicky Henderson mare to whom he was giving a stone, she recently won a handicap off 118 by a distance. Go Dante had looked impressive when winning on his hurdles debut at Bangor, so connections were right to think they had a good one. He wasn’t seen again after the Challow in December, as he reportedly just wasn’t right, so given a break he returns here still very much unexposed and open to a good deal of improvement. He’s missed a few engagements due to cancelled meetings of late, so is sure to be plenty for enough for a belated reappearance. 2.40 Doncaster – Twig (e/w) – generally 14/1 A slightly unconventional route to novice hurdling having been sent hunter chasing after a successful stint in point to point fields. He then started this season novice chasing, before being switched to hurdles in October where he gave the classy Shearer a real run for his money at Cheltenham. Twig subsequently won a relatively weak race at Kempton with ease, and he looks to be a pretty decent staying hurdler. There really isn’t much between these on ratings and on what he’s achieved he looks way over priced. 3.35 Cheltenham – Rock My Way (4/1) & Henri The Second (7/2) Two we’re keen on here, so let’s back them both at around Even Money if either wins. Rock My Way was a notebook horse from his hurdles debut when an extremely encouraging 2nd to a very well regarded winner here in January, where the front two pulled a long way clear of the field. He’s a really striking individual and with a little improvement from that run must be competitive again. Henri The Second won well for us last time at Sandown and he looks to be progressing with every race. A big strong type, he’s highly regarded by the Nicholls camp and on form should probably be favourite despite the 5lb penalty. Notebook Comments: Kempton, Your Darling An impressive winner over 2m4f on his return to action at Ascot, he was stepped up in trip here and on a soft surface he didn’t get home over the 3 mile trip. He travelled onto the race nicely having been given a patient ride and looked to make a strong move into the home straight, looking sure to be involved in the finish, but his stamina faded and he finished 5th. He showed he can be competitive and win off his revised handicap mark, but would want to step back in trip as he didn’t look to stay last season when stepping beyond 2 ½ miles. 13:01 Fairyhouse, Better Times Ahead 0.5pt win 0.5pt place 13:50 Cheltenham, Phoenix Way 0.5pt win 0.5pt place 15:15 Doncaster, Tea For Free 1pt win 16:25 Doncaster, Go West 1pt win 16.17 Uttoxeter, Waterloo Quay 1pt each-way @ 12.00 several bookies (5 places @ 1/5)

3/1 Sky Bet for the reformed back passers to finish in the top half of the table. Still a bit to do but a safer bet than having a go on the horses? Played more games than most but only 2 points to catch up. Just to make it interesting why not have a shilling on the side - they won't forget Ernie!
