Here we go…. 2.10 Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle – The Bosses Oscar – ½ Point Each Way – generally 10/1 & Top 6 Places. Showed a distinct return to form last time at Musselburgh at a track that wouldn’t have suited. He looks to have been lined up for this and comes here on a decent mark having performed well here in past seasons. Forgivable for a poor run at last years Festival as he’d been chasing previously and the ground was atrocious. He’d run very well at the 2021 Festival in this very race when runner up off a mark of 151 and also ran very well when an unlucky staying on 5th in the Martin Pipe on 2020. He’s in here off 145, so his chance is obvious and his run last time screamed a preparation for this. 2.10 Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle – Thanksforthehelp – 1 Point Win – generally 4/1 Put in an almost unbelievable performance when winning at Chepstow last time without ever coming off the bridle. You’d be pressed to find an easier winner of what looked a fairly competitive handicap at the time. He’s up 11lbs for that win and this is clearly a much better race, but the weight rise wouldn’t have seen a different result last time, so he has to be supported to back up that remarkable win. 4.10 Plate Handicap Chase - Escaria Ten – 1 Point Each Way – 33/1 Bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair, Bet Victor, Top 5 Places, otherwise 28/1. He’s been asked some pretty tough questions over the past few seasons, including when running very well for a long way in the Grand National where he blatantly didn’t stay. He ran a cracker then 3rd in the Nh Chase here behind Galvin a couple of season ago, and when racing over a trip of 3 miles for the only time since he switched to fences he ran his best race for a whole when 2nd to Darasso at Thurles just a couple of months ago. He didn’t seem to get home last time in the Thyestes and this drop in trip makes plenty of appeal. He’s a classy type and is taken to run a big race at a big price. Away from Cheltenham, we have a flat notebook horse from last season making his reappearance after a break. 7.30 Chelmsford, Wadi Bani, made a huge impression on his 2nd start at Goodwood, but he did disappoint subsequently. But he was a big 2yo and may well have needed time to fill his frame. Based on the Goodwood run he’s potentially very well handicapped and whilst not an advised bet, we wouldn’t put you off having a small interest. Unfortunately he was well backed last night, so we missed the price.

Well done? Nah, more phew!! Watched Gold Tweet's last race and it was very impressive. Of the five, it was the one I put in first. The last leg was Chelsea's Escaria Ten, at 50's. Cashed out probably because the first three won, selections more in hope of a place than any expectation, strange results, also 1483.24 not to be sniffed at.

2:00 pm Fontwell - Kansas Du Berlais 11/8 (1 Point) 3:17 pm Kempton - Vicki Vale 6/5 (3 Points 15.25 Newcastle, Small Present 1 point e/w @ 5/1 @ Bet365, William Hill, Betfred 1/5 @ 123 places 2.05 Kempton – Too Friendly – ½ Point Each Way, generally 10/1 & Top 4 Places. A notebook horse from Ascot, he’s missed Cheltenham and that can pay dividends at a track that will really suit him and on ground that should be ideal. He’s a really consistent type and is still nicely treated and the same mark as when an excellent 5th in last years Boodles Hurdle. He looks to have a lot in his favour here and it’ll be disappointing if he isn’t seriously involved at the business end of the race. Notebook Comments: Ascot, Too Friendly Travelled really well having been ridden with his usual restraint near the back of the field. He certainly appreciates decent ground and was a little unlucky not to finish a little closer as he didn’t get the clearest of runs as they turned for home, but battled on well to nab 4th place. He seems equally as effective over 2m4f as 2 miles and could be very interesting if sneaking into the bottom of the weights in one of the Festival handicaps. He’s on a similar handicap mark when a very good 5th in last years Boodles so it’ll be interesting to see where the Skelton team aim him. 3.35 Uttoxeter – Iron Bridge – 1 Point Win, generally 3/1 A very good effort over a trip short of his optimum and on ground quicker than ideal last time when a staying on, runner up to Galahad Quest at Warwick, where the well handicapped winner looked to return to his best. Iron Bridge will relish the return to a soft surface, he’s won all three of his races when encountering soft ground and always been considered a stayer. With plenty of improvement to come, he’s taken to give weight away to inferior rivals here.

Twice a winner over the smaller obstacles last season, he mixed it in some pretty hot company. He’d looked a work in progress over fences and perhaps connections have decided to keep his novice status for next season. A repeat of his hurdles form from last season off a mark here of only 119 must see him go close. 3.35 Haydock – Alnadim – generally 3/1 Comes into this very well handicapped and promised a return to form last time having dropped significantly in the weights over the last 18 months. He’d previously been contesting some top class handicaps off marks in the mid 140’s and he races here off 121 with a further 5lbs claimed by his jockey. His 3rd last time was his best run for a good while and the return to a softer surface is also a big plus. A return to front running tactics also looked to see him a happier horse, so he’ll hopefully be ridden handily again; he’s certainly handicapped to win. 5.20 Haydock – Amoola Gold – generally 9/1 A little confidence boost last time over hurdles, he’s exceptionally well handicapped and makes plenty of appeal now he races on a soft surface back over fences. The last time he had suitable conditions over fences he was rated a stone higher in a top class Newbury handicap, which was over a trip too far. He last won over fences was in October 2021, but he was rated 146 compared to 132 here, that was the last time he had his conditions over this trip, apart from when contesting a grade 1 behind Shishkin. He has plenty in his favour off a very lenient rating.
