Verdict due at 9.30am this morning. What does everyone reckon will happen? 1. Ban is upheld and they are banned for 2 seasons 2. Ban is reduced to 1 season 3. Ban is overturned I'm pretty sure City have been here before and got off with it so I reckon their ban will be reduced to 1 season. They're either guilty or they're not and I'm in the guilty camp.
football is more corrupt than people think imo... I think var makes match fixing easier personally on a side note
Option 4 - Ban Upheld and is appealed. Man C will just refer this to CAS and tie UEFA up in a legal entanglement for the next 10 years. Indeed we may see Option 2, Option 3 or an agreement reached so UEFA can avoid a long drawn out and costly legal battle. I can't see how it will stand up to scrutiny either to be honest. I mean they've clearly been at it, but teams have been riding roughshod over the rules for years, but suddenly we have decided to punish two teams? Surely Man C would have a case to say "why are we being treated differently?" And I think really really rich club owners like say those from Qatar, Abu Dhabi or perhaps Saudi, should be able to spend whatever they want...
Unless it's like a billion pounds it ain't even gonna scratch the surface, even losing £100m per season if the ban is upheld ain't gonna do them any harm, maybe 1 or 2 players might leave or they won't seem as attractive to potential new signings.
Ban overturned and hefty fine imposed. They have probably already reached an agreement on that anyway. They need to cancel FFP as it doesn't do what it is meant to do. It was supposedly designed to stop unscrupulous owners taking over clubs and running them to ruin. Do what many industries do instead - make the owners put up a cash bond, held by the PL, that is forfeited if the club goes into administration or can't meet its financial obligations. Would get rid of a lot of these owners who are using the clubs money to buy it. The owners of Man City have done a great job in building the club up. They should be praised for it rather than punished.
They've tried and failed. If they want something that works they need to open their minds a bit. Draft systems, setting spend and salary caps, there are lots of better options. The problem is that UEFA/FIFA are bought and paid for by the elite clubs in my opinion. So they'll punish who they see fit, won't do anything these elite clubs aren't down with, and allow all manner of other things go unchecked. Perhaps PSG and Man C are being targeted because they've had the audacity to break up the status quo of the last how many decades. Holland - Ajax, Germany - Bayern Munich England - Man U, Liverpool Spain - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Italy - Juventus, Milan France - Marseille, Monaco These are the acceptable favoured faces of European football I reckon. Your Man C, Chelsea, Dortmund, A Madrid, PSG, PSV etc are all acceptable too as long as they know their place.
Very hard to see it overturned given the evidence. Reduced is possible as they’ll probably argue some of the problems were technicalities or misunderstandings.
FFP has failed but they need to decide do they want to make it a level playing field and increase competition or do they want to protect clubs/supporters from clubs going bust. They are two completely different things. Clubs at the top don't want more competition so its going to be very hard to come up with a system that satisfies all the clubs and once again the big clubs would hold sway.
Not surprised really. Sets a very bad precedent though, although I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happened.
This result could be key in the Newcastle takeover. A ban for breaching FFP will not sit well for people looking at Newcastle. But if let off this will be the death of FFP and the hold the big 14-16 clubs hold and allow smaller sides to be money pits for people with time on their hands/billions to waste
They've concluded that they did nothing wrong but they just didn't cooperate with UEFA. Sounds like Saudis Arabia and piracy
