The home match after City had clinched the title was a 0-0 draw against Newport County. I was eleven years old. At the end of the game, many of the crowd climbed over the metal railings to see the Third South Championship Shield presented in the (now) Williams. How many remember those railings? They were quite high and I was a typical 11 year boy. I just about dragged myself up to the top and sort of fell/jumped down pitch side. My school uniform short trousers got caught on one of the metal prongs and ripped a bloody great hole in them. My Mum was not amused when I got home but Dad who could not go to the match because of work, just wanted a full match report. I am not climbing any fences this time when we get presented with the trophy!
