From a story in yesterdays Telegraph it would appear that the club are reluctant to spend any money in the January transfer window and Ashley believes that having spent money in the summer that this team should be doing better!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...stle-reluctant-to-spend-again-in-January.html
the trouble with Ashley's beliefs are, every other team spent a lot of money as well so technically we are just treading water and not any better than last season which is exactly where we are now
It's this aspect that I don't think he even considers, we missed out on two transfer windows as well which set us back so far as well, I've always been a bit neutral about Ashley but the more I look at it for a man with so much money to be so grasping for more is just naked greed, he could easily pump money in and write it off but his fundamental nature precludes this and it is just not going to change, even the disaster that would come with relegation doesn't seem to affect his approach.
It's all very well saying we have to sell, nobody wants our useless riffraff, with the exception of Perez, none of them are worth the values the club is likely to place on them. Sissoko may well have his suitors, but for me he is welcome to fook right off. Far far too inconsistent and regularly annonymouse. Let his arise collect splinters if that's what he wants, at the moment he is just a waste of space. I doubt McLaren will have much money to splash if it has to come from the proceeds of. NUFC fire sale. Bargain bucket me thinks! And definitely not going to save our bacon this time around.
If true then we are a bunch of morons. However it is Luke Edwards... McClaren would be well advised to get a spine, as would most of the current side He is right though we need some players who know the league and are willing to roll up their sleeves. We do need a centre back, left back and centre midfielder badly. A striker would be nice too.
To be fair he has something of a point. The team we have should be higher up the league. But we are in the situation we are. A number of previously poor Windows have left us struggling to keep our heads above water. And now to keep us in the league he is going to have to spend. Probably over the odds. Best money he could spend is paying off Charnley's contract and taking some advise from people who know what they are talking about to get someone to do that job properly and give them the freedom to lay some home truths out on the table.
He needs to get rid of Charnley and Carr and employ someone who knows about the game and has actually achieved something [Graham Carr got Northampton Town promoted, but was generally a **** player and even ****ter manager.] If he thinks we can survive without spending money then he is an even bigger idiot than I thought. This squad, to even be competitive needs at least 5 players in January. That's 5 good players, not some cheap ass **** rubbish from the French league.
Well to be honest anyone expecting more money spending need only look at the past 8 years. This will reinforce ashleys previous stance on spending ie zero.
I find it funny when people say "we only need X, y, z" To work for the manager we have and not go down, we need a new start. We could quite happily overhaul this squad and nobody should give two ****s, even Perez isn't that good. Or, we could just change manager and enjoy 16th place year on year.
Getting rid of Charnley would be a great move as he has been promoted way above his level of competence, but he is only doing what Mike Ashley tells him to do. Certainly regarding transfer policy, etc. So Mike Ashley first needs to change his approach to running the club, but there are 2 problems with this: 1, He is a stubborn bastard and pretty much never admits he has got it wrong; and 2, "Mike Ashley knows nothing about football".
You would have thought for a man who isn't stupid that he might have learnt something about it, he's had long enough to do so.
On one hand we are linked to players almost daily - on the other we are not spending any money without selling. We were told in the summer that we would have several big transfer windows, first window and we did.... now it just a case of waiting and seeing. I do think though that we need to get rid - not to free up funds but just to get rid of a certain amount of ****e!
Gouffran, Anita, Dummett, Haidara, Sissoko, Coloccini, Colback, Tiote, Cisse Elliott, Krul, They all need to be moved on and replaced with GOOD players. Mitrovic, Wijnaldum and Mbemba are good players. Thauvin could be with better players around him.
I'd retain Colback as a back up player for the Danny Guthrie type role in our first season up - i.e. towards end of games when you want another midfielder to retain possession etc. Other than that I'd struggle to make a case.
