I thought exactly the same thing, but did not post as I am uneducated as to the current "state of the art" on fire-retarding timber coatings etc (things may now be safely viable for stadia with a certain max capacity etc) .
The Bradford fire was caused, or at least aggravated, by the build up of litter beneath the stands. Bearing in mind it had stood there for 77 years you could question the use of plastic more than wood. I suspect the design is more important than the materials.
If someone has : - done all the "what if" scenarios - presented the numbers for public scrutiny and things hold, then all good to me.
IIRC there were a bunch of contributing factors, starting with how the terrace was basically slats which allowed so much rubbish to accumulate under the stands, as well as the fateful dropped cigarette that fell through the gap and ignited the lot There were also some other contributing factors, notably the stand's roof was covered in bitumen felt which would keep the rain off but was highly flammable, and there's eyewitness accounts of great globs of the stuff pouring down and encasing people as they're still sat in their seats. Plus the complete lack of consideration for fan safety, as the stand didn't have any fire extinguishers and the gates leading to the street were padlocked shut There's also a certain amount of innuendo about Bradford's then-chairman, considering he had a track record of his businesses literally going up in smoke in the years before the fire
It's something that they've considered: https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk...wood-forest-green-stadium-wont-be-a-fire-risk Looks quite open and escapable, too.
Cancelled both my memberships today. Really annoyed at the price increase and with me having bought a season ticket at the Gills and my son saving for a house I am not sure we would be buying many tickets anyway.
I’ve seen loads saying similar on Twitter too and I don’t blame any of you. It’s scary just how out of touch the club is with its fans at the moment, raising prices at a time of huge discontent where there’s currently zero footballing plan is just behind ridiculous.
Tottenham have won their appeal against the FA fine v Brighton of £100k. It's been reduced to £40k. The whole thing was ridiculous in the first place, but that's somehow even more ridiculous.
I can remember watching this unfold on the TV particularly the old chap who gave up and just sat there waiting for the inevitable, his clothes were starting to smoke ,then a young lad climbed in and got him out , an outstanding piece of bravery The same could be said about the KingsCross fire, lack of maintenance allowed a build up of fluff and waste paper with added grease and oil from the escalator mechanism made for a perfect storm
We should acquire a Scottish feeder team for loans and the like. I nominate FC Edinburgh, who should immediately be renamed Justin Edinburgh FC.
Nike leaked the new kit: please log in to view this image Looks like it's all white this season, including the shorts. Should be on our official sites today, but it's quite late.
For the first time in ages, I actually like a home hit that Nike have produced for us! hilarious that we’ve gone for the “Europe shorts” for a season where we’re not in Europe! only Tottenham! £125 for a shirt is quite frankly disgusting, though. How can football clubs think that’s acceptable? No wonder people shop on DHgate. the pessimist in me is worried that Kane modelling this is part of a plan to encourage season ticket renewals, one hotspur memberships and kit sales, yet he’ll still be leaving. I sincerely hope I’m wrong!
