I'll be surprised if Ings is a 5 goal a season guy. We've spent a remarkable sum on a player who isn't likely to play regularly.
Happy with this. For a start we have a player that wanted to come to Southampton, and was obviously holding out for a deal to be agreed. Reading Klopp’s statement, he said that Ings wanted to play for his hometown club, and sounds like they had a good chat about that? Liverpool fans have actually been praising his pre season form, especially the last game against Torino.
After his goal against Aberdeen last week, sadly I can confirm that he is ! Anyway, welcome Danny, one of our own and all that.
After some thought (unusual for me) I've convinced myself to be pleased about Danny signing. I think, like many, I'd resigned myself to no further players arriving so it feels a little like a bonus. If he'd been our first signing a few weeks ago maybe I'd feel different. I might avoid not606 if he and Charlie are out injured at the same time though. But hey, I've just started to get a little knot of anxiety/excitement about the Burnley game. Nice to be back in the groove!
Saints fans have been starved of good football for a while now............We are all hungry for a bit of success..............I guess it is the reason some go a little over the top when we get some new "talent". I so hope you guys are right that young Ings is the messiah and the last piece in the jigsaw........Buuuut....lets give the guy a good chance before we start writing him or any of the other players off. That includes Fraser and co, they all just may have a piece to play in all this..........COYS........Edit.......... I am pleased as punch for him.....I knew him as a small lad when his dad played for Netley as did my youngest son.
I'm not going to go through this season expecting two of our Strikers to get long term injuries at any minute. As with the rest of the squad I will assume that we will be going with the players that we have now, I guess it's my nature but i'm not always waiting for the next disaster to happen, where's the enjoyment in that?
I came onto web site feeling underwhelmed by the news. But reading through the comments on here l am lifted by what l have read. I get the comment by Beefy about better alternative than Carillo, also more goals in him than Long, but what l have picked up is his strength of character. We need players with courage who lead by example. For me, with a tough season ahead, we need players who want to play for us and not just to collect their wages. We have been lacking leadership on the board, in recent managers and the changing room. This signing will help the latter.
Sorry, but it's an insane deal. I get the romanticism of him being a local boy and a good character, but if anyone else had forked over £18m for Ings we'd be doubled over in laughter. Among other injuries he's torn an ACL in one knee and suffered major cartilage damage in the other, and has suffered setback after setback, yet we're penciling him in as our first-choice striker who is going to bag bucketloads?
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/08/1...e-united-fans-fume-as-southampton-sign-danny/ Newcastle fans unhappy about Ings coming to Saints....but then like every transfer there will be some fans unhappy to have signed a player and some unhappy to have missed out. Ings seems to have upset some fans on Saintsweb. My attitude is that we needed a striker and now Ings is here, he has become not just any old striker, but a Saints striker....so go, Danny.
