BBC website reporting significant clusters in both Liverpool and Cheltenham. Trump says to inject people with disinfectant! A shot of the old Domestos should do the trick. Maybe test it on him.

I know this doesn’t represent all Americans ,but a minority.
But how can people believe this virus is fake? (Also we do have these people in the U.K as well).

"Be like Sweden" is dumb, because Sweden i) is still expected to have a massive economic downturn, and ii) has one of the worst ratio of deaths to confirmed cases anywhere in the world, and that's despite a lot of voluntary social distancing, a more rural/more single population than most countries, and a great public health care system. They're banking on herd immunity, but have also done fewer tests per capita than the vast majority of developed nations.

So while it's possible that it's working, there's also nothing to go by there beyond their believe that it's working.

I actually went out and bought a 24 pack of Camden Hells last night and I am fully intending to be be breaking into them at bang on 5pm this evening. I might sit in the window and drink. Normally, I would frown upon such behaviour. <laugh>

Having to choose between economics and health is a situation that I will have to deal with, sooner than I want to, but I cannot blame the government for this (although I think they could do more to clarify the furlough rules so that there is absolutely no doubt that key workers living with vulnerable people not only CAN be furloughed but SHOULD be furloughed to safeguard life).
Employers using the ambiguity of the way the rules are written, to exclude their staff from the scheme, are beneath contempt, especially as it doesn’t cost them.

I can't figure out what that should have for a soundtrack: the theme music from Curb Your Enthusiasm, or the Gary Jules version of "Mad World". You can straight-up watch her die inside.

Let's not turn into the rabid purveyors of falsehood we dislike in the Trump brigade. The Swedish death toll is NOT skyrocketing. It is simply going up relative to infection. And, Schad, you said in the same breath that Sweden has a terrible death rate and barely any testing. Therefore this is supposition. It may be true, but that is very hard to say at the moment. People seem eager for Sweden to be wrong, but Sweden is doing what Sweden feels is best. This can be right for Sweden and still not right for us.

The evidence shows that the death rate in Sweden is rising steeply, certainly faster than her neighbours:

Compared to Norway, Denmark, and Finland, all of whom have imposed lockdowns, the death toll is enormous.

Sweden's death rate stands at 200 per million people, but is rising at a higher rate than any of the countries above it. A higher percentage of its population -- about 1 out of every 15000 residents -- have been confirmed to have died from COVID in the past week than in France, Italy, the US, or Spain (though better than the UK). And that's despite having poor enough testing numbers that it's a likely bet that the numbers are quite a bit higher.

It's also supposition that it's working. That's the point: if you don't have enough data, you simply don't know. That makes it a really questionable model to follow, when you have other countries you could follow that have good data, and where far fewer people are dying as a percentage of their population.

Edit: the peaks and troughs seems to be a product of reporting delays on weekends. On a linear scale, it's much clearer that it's still heading up at a solid 45-degree angle. It has bent, just not as much as most other places, particularly those that had time to prepare.
