Off Topic Coronavirus

No surprise, we were warned a few weeks back, London figures shooting up as well...

 

Yep unfortunately we were. In the first wave (as its called), I personally didnt know anyone in my immediate environment who had the virus. Now I know bloody loads.

 

Are any of them unwell?

 

I know of two that are in hospital but the rest just have symptoms but all say they feel fine.

Starmer is now calling for the 'circuit-breaker' lockdown that Sage advised and Sunak wouldn't allow.

 

What do you reckon? Would it have been worth doing? I think it might have delayed things a bit. Not sure what ultimate purpose that serves.

Pubs in Tier 2 areas begging to be put into Tier 3, because they get no £ support for staff if they decide not to open because of a fall off in trade.

 

Presumably, given your past thoughts on all this, you disagree with Starmer?

I just listened to two people who deal in perishable goods saying if we went down the Starmer lockdown route (which would be the end of next week) they would lose thousands ££££. Who would pay for this lockdown? It's okay saying it but in reality, it would just about wreck us.

 

I said my bit on the other thread. I'm also listening to someone know who thinks it's not a good idea.

 

A short, all-encompassing lockdown couldn't do any harm and would at least have the advantage of being unambiguous, but it could only only slow the spread a little and I don't see what you do when it ends.

 

I agree, it would only have given a temporary relief. Personally, this feels like a partial herd immunity approach; but I guess we have a little more knowledge on how to treat patients more effectively. The problem is when it moves through the age groups and begins hitting higher levels of vulnerable people - who will then need hospital beds that have already been taken by earlier age groups hit hard by the virus - which could tip the NHS over the edge (and maybe result in giving up on older patients to die).
Hope it doesn’t come to this.
