Plus the Adelaide day/night test is only 4 days after the scheduled finish of the first test, always assuming it goes 5 days, so in a way it makes sense to "rest" Jimmy as he's likely to be more useful with the pink ball...........

Seems I may be the only one staying up to watch.
Probably be disheartened after 30 minutes and retire to bed.

Obviously, but better he's fully fit for possibly 2 day/nighters in which conditions should theoretically suit him better. I'm intrigued to see how Robinson bowls here as he's very similar to Hazlewood in my opinion, think we should go all seam attack as the weather won't suit Leach. Let's hope that Broad still has the hoodoo on Warner if selected !

Although this definitely helps England it’s a real shame. These games are more frequent than they used to be but still most players will only get a few Ashes series, and I’m sure they want to compete every minute of every Test, no matter how unlikely a good result is.

Likewise I suppose there will be close to zero travelling fans. The Boxing Day in Melbourne and three days of the Sydney Test in 1986/7, even though England lost in Sydney, were the best times I’ve had watching live Test cricket, largely because of the civilised conversations with Aussie fans.

Rain typically associated with Storms at this time of year so there is a chance you may miss the rain altogether or get drenched. Up to date rain cloud monitoring is at

We haven't played a test match in nearly 2 years, so that particular skill set could be a bit rusty

What’s your feeling Eric? I, and I think a lot of us, are expecting a whitewash or close to it in favour of your lot. Our focus has been on the short form versions for too long (not even getting to the final of the T20 was a major disappointment) and we have issues at the top of our batting order. Stokes, if he hits form immediately, could make a huge difference, otherwise we essentially rely on Root plus one or two random others (changes every match) to post a decent total.

But I have no idea what to expect from your lot, apart from the usual suspects. Now you say they haven’t played a test for 2 years, muscle memory will be important. I’m assuming that if we get Warner and Smith cheaply we will be laughing, but that’s probably ignorance on my part.

They just stated on the news that it was the first Ashes test match in four years.
    Is that correct?

You're right Smith and Warner will be key and if you get them cheaply a lot will hang on how well Harris, who is always under pressure as an opener but more particularly Marnus perform. Carey as the new WK will be under scrutiny and Pat as Captain will be one to watch as we haven't had a fast bowler as Captain and if there are some initial dodgy calls the press will be on him. The Gabba is a good ground for us and I'm sure there will be enough Poms in the crowd to give some local support and Stokes being back in the your team will potentially swing things in your favour a bit.
