As your list highlights quite clearly, a CB is needed, as is getting rid of at least one (Saylor my choice) and there's a space in central midfield for someone a bit younger who can win a ball back. A Jack Rodwell type (off to Sunderland), but for about 1/5th of the money.

I'm not convinced that any of those strikers can score you a large number of goals.

I believe aside from Colo and Janmaat that our defensive options are average to poor. Mbiwa/Saylor are one in the same - liabilities. Willo is a solid back up but not that of top 8 starting material. Haidara and Santon are poor defenders on what I've seen. Dummett is better defensively but looks Championship level in terms of his attack offerings. Raylor I assume is finished. Young Satka, Streete and Good are unknowns.

I think we lack a ball playing midfielder and assume they are banking on Abeid/Colback. None of Tiote, Anita, Abeid, Colback, Bigi possess the ability to control the pace of a game a la Cabaye. I see us going sideways a lot or simply hoping that Cabella, SDJ etc can produce magic. Football never works like that.

I'd chuck young Aarons in the first team mix and think we have excellent options there with him, Sissoko, SDJ, Cabella and Gouffran.

Krul is decent but Alnwick and Elliott makes for a weak looking GK line up to me.

I'd sell HBA, Ameobi, Obertan, Jonas, Vuckic, Ferguson as I see no future for them at the club. The wages are being wasted.

We need a top class centre back, a ball playing midfielder, and a top striker if you harbour ambitions of a top 8 finish. However if our aim is simply to fill either 9th or 10th, we're probably good enough to have a run at that now. I think people underestimate the difference in quality in first teams and depth between us and the top 8. My main issue is our defence which to me is not very good.

    CB is worryingly weak.

At striker we are keeping our finger's crossed a bit that one of them will come good.

Other than that we are in reasonable shape.

    What is an SB ?

Just caught on twitter lads that yous have got Lascelles and Darlow for £5m...

    Mark Douglas ‏@MsiDouglas 2m
Interesting quotes from @NatJacksonsport. Pearce unhappy. I hear #nufc have done the deal for £5m or so.

Whilst they are being loaned back that would be a bargain for 2 prospects like that

Did you watch the derby? Case closed. A half fit Fletcher mullered him.

Need a left back and CB

Santon is no left back, Haidara isnt up to scratch yet, both defensive wise are not the best

**** me you lot have some ****e to shift as well, too many senior players in your extras section like we have. To make the most of wages you need to get the bigger earners out of the surplus section. However you must be happy with your squad, much improved.

I genuinely am both surprised and happy with the business so far.
A big miss to lose Remy's goals but if they come from elsewhere in the park I'll not complain.
Gutierrez has been cut off on his £60k per week... so yes, still a few to ship out.
For me if we can get Jonas & HBA off the wage bill (on the basis that they won't be played anyhow) it will cap off a decent window all round.

Shift a bit of surplus and it could get better yet for you.

Things are looking better than I would have expected, but I had very low expectations.

    We need to bring in:

    1. Quality CB
    2. Chief goalscorer
    3. Grenier

Then we would look seriously good, on paper at least. We'd still have to see what Pardew could manage with them.

The complicated squad rules with home grown and foreign quotas should make it interesting.
When HBA, Jonas and Obertan are included, we must be at our limit of 17 foreign players by now.
That being the case, unless we move them on, I cant see anymore non-Brits coming in.

Going by the list in OP we've got 7 home-grown players (Krul, Elliot, Alnwick, Raylor, Willo, Saylor, Colback). Alnwick as well as some of the others may qualify as U-21 so don't count towards quotas (I may be wrong here of course)
