I went through a phase in my early 40's waking up with anxiety realising that one day I was actually going to die. Of course I've always known this, but it just seemed to hit me in my 40's that one day it would actually happen for real, rather than it being this abstract concept that we just put out of our minds. I Kind of struggled with that for a few months before reading one of those crappy meme's on the internet, but this one resonated with me. It said: 'One day you are going to die. But every other day you are not going to die' And that kind of put it back into perspective for me. There's no point worrying about death, it's inevitable for sure. But the point of life is to make the most of the time you are given.
Your brain slows down time for you and puts you in a safe place, when you die, so the white light and all of its various guises, are what people on the verge of death have experienced.
Of course if you are lucky, then before you die you have to grow old. That’s really the hard part. I say this having just run for a bus, with all the acceleration of a sleepy hippo, then nearly had to pull up lame due to a sudden pain in the small of my back.
Would have been worse if the bus was moving mate ... hot bath when you get home and a nice glass of plonk ...
The interesting thing about near death experiences is that they are cultural and based on what people believe will happen in the afterlife. In cultures believing in heaven and a white light, people see that. In more animalistic cultures they see spirits of animals, etc. So either God(s) adapt to us to make us feel more comfortable, or it's all in our mind filling in the gaps when returning from near death. I'm agnostic, I don't specifically believe in a deity, or deities, but I don't really disbelieve that they exist either. I don't believe any religion I've ever heard could be spot on... Let people believe what they want though. No harm in simply believing in a religion. (As long as you don't try to force your belief, or disbelief on others). ... But could gods, or super advanced intelligence of another kind have created the universe? I guess it's possible.
It’s far, far more than that. Look into the near death experiences of Pam Reynolds and Ebon Alexander (among thousands).
Well said. I recommend everyone listening to the lectures given by the late Alan Watts. There are plenty of them on YouTube. He was a very enlightened man.
Honestly, I think a lot of it is a kind of mental placebo effect. If you expect to experience a glowing light, you will. Your brain will provide it for you as you're coming back. It's like the "hovering over you dead body" experience some people claim to have. Doctors testing this have put large colourful shapes above patients having risky surgery to test this out. Patients who had near death experiences and claimed to have hovered above their body in an out of body experience were unable to answer what colour or shape was in the room... Suggesting that that particular experience is in the mind.
Look at the cases of Pam Reynolds and Ebon Alexander. Neither can be dismissed so glibly. The latter was a neuro surgeon.
Personal anecdotes don't overrule scientific experiments which have been done to test the claims. Specifically those that have been done to objectively test if those claiming out of body could actually have done so. Neuro surgeons are just as capable of hallucinating or mixing dreams up with reality as anyone else.
And he was also sued and sacked repeatedly for medical mispractice, ending up in deep **** financially before his "revelation". Funny that.
