My Name is Will Pownall I am Masters student at the University of Surrey and a huge football fan. For my dissertation topic I have chosen to analyse the factors which affect match attendance in English professional football and their relation to fan loyalty. I chose this topic because the club I support - Aldershot Town FC have struggled with attendance figures over the past few seasons. I know Aldershot are not alone in this struggle and my research aims to find out why fans are not attending games.

I am asking football fans up and down the country to take a maximum of 5 minutes of their time to fill in a short questionnaire. I will be sending the results of my research to football clubs in England so by doing this you will be helping English football clubs improve the match day experience for fans!

Please follow the link below to complete the questionnaire.

    Done.

I don't want to be an arse but I was, and after checking still am, pretty certain that attendances across the leagues are the highest they've been for decades. Not sure where this factors into your starting point really!

Done, hope you get a good mark and perhaps publish your dissertation on this thread. So often I complete these quick surveys and never get to read the results!
I recommend putting your survey on to non football related sites. Some of your questions lent towards more casual fans

Some oddly worded questions. If you support a club nothing else matters. I'm guessing this has more to do with ticket prices.

silly questionairre really. Most people would attend ALL the games that they could IF travel was not a problem, ticket prices were affordable and were able to fit it in with other commitments.

Premier LEague attendances aren't falling. Clubs like Aldershot (and Lincoln City) have falling attendances because they are charging £20 a ticket and for no other reason. They are charging half the price of some Prem tickets for what exactly? Definitely the ratio is not 1:2 in terms of what you are getting for half the price!!! That's it in a nutshell.

So for a Dad with 2 boys thats £40 in tickets, £10 in food and drink (kids demand), £10 for the bus to the city centre (if you're local to the team.) £60 to take your 2 kids to the 5th tier team for an hour and a half of 5th tier football. Doesn't happen very often anymore. May as well take them to the municipal park and watch a Sunday league side for free.

Attendances are declining throughout the Conference and Conference South. Possibly because of ticket prices, most Conference South clubs charge about £12 for a ticket but I'm not sure if that's high. Probably is. Portsmouth are only £8 more than that and I'd probably have more enjoyment there than my local non-league side.

It's also a bit of a vicious cycle. Attendances fall, so the atmosphere gets worse, so attendances fall, so the atmosphere gets worse and so on.
