How much dirtier could the Leeds squad get...? Barton rumoured with Diouf, Brown and Austin already in place. Who else could or should we get to build the Leeds Dirty Dozen....
People misunderstand the 'dirty leeds' name. I don't just want dirty players in the team, players like Austin and Brown are ok but not Diouf and Barton IMO. I see the dirty leeds name as the media over reacting to a tough tackling Revie team
Nah, a bit more to it than that, Josh. Sadly, most people who are not of a certain age are left with that view. It was Revie that introduced 'professionalism' to the english game, and it was not well received. All within the rules, but frowned upon by everyone (until they adopted it themselves!). Things like pressurising the ref, Big Jack blocking the goalie's view at corners, playing out time when ahead etc. And we could kick anyone off the park too, I suppose, but there was a lot of it about at the time (we suffered a few broken legs too).
Whitejock, while I am not of the age to have enjoyed Revie's team I was aware there was more to it. But more to the point, scum of the game like Diouf and Barton do not fall under the term 'dirty leeds' in my eyes
The dirty leeds tag was just frustration because other teams hated the fact we were miles better in class at the time
The main difference between a lot of these players mentioned was/is how they behave once the 90 minutes was up. Revie's team might have earned the tag 'dirty' but I see going in for a hard head on tackle fairer than a player falling over in the box trying to earn a penalty. As WJ pointed out, those players going in for the tackles risked getting hurt themselves just as much as the man they were tackling.
Shame that the old 'Dirty Leeds' we should genuinely be proud of has been perverted into 'get any cowardly/marginalized twat who's available, just to further the mass hatred of Leeds'. People should hate us out of envy.
I don't think anyone's writing Austin off as one of the cowards/no-marks? I've still not seen the fella play live yet. Come on Bates and hurry up ****ing off.
I've got a season-ticket sized money pot (Jerel's jar?!) just waiting to be spent on a membership, away games and choice home fixtures. Feel dirty giving it to the club at present though.
I'm sure your just itching for it, I don't think I could do that to myself though. I applaud you for doing what you believe is best for the club though, whether I agree or disagree is a different matter
Worst comes to the worst, I'll just have to sell my body to gain use of people's member cards for away bookings. So y'know, there's always a Plan B.
Now that reminds me of the Paddy Power advert - You need to get writing on their wall Jerel http://www.facebook.com/paddypower
Dirty Leeds is only really a tag, it is not anything other than a state of mind in the away fans facing Leeds.
Leeds were not dirty, but got given the tag by the southern based media, and all because Norman got a bit of revenge in one match. There were some real dirty bastards plying their trade in the top league in tose days and one of the worst was Chopper Harris at chelsea. Now he only had an average size cock so have aguess why he was called chopper. Liverpool had some of the hardest twats around who loved leaving a foot in. Players like St john, Yeats and that scouse animal. The so valled golden boys of that era were also into putting it about. Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and even George Best did some damage, everyone was at it as it was a tough game, if you had any talent you took stick. The Revie team were full of talent so all took stick, but the difference is and i'll quote Alan Clarke here; " we were a team and if we saw Eddie getting chopped down, one of us would get some revenge. Jonny Giles was always getting stick, so Billy was his minder most of the time, and that little prick keegan picked on the wrong bloke ...." The only way some team could get the ball off us was by hacking us down, but we had long memories and made sure the so called hard lads knew that.
