Edwards states yes as Liverpool accept pay up ₤ 18m required for finalizing According to a report on 90min (by means of the Express) sporting director Michael Edwards has actually been sufficiently impressed by his efficiencies, especially of late. As a young gamer signing up with from a having a hard time group, Kabak withstood an unstable start. He was associated with a disastrous mix-up with goalkeeper Alisson Becker on his launching in the 3-1 loss at Leicester. Agree with Luv. Potential is definitely there and I think he has done a good job all things considered. Would like to see him alongside VVD who another experienced defender. If we do go for him, then I hope we get another - someone like Konate who has pace as well as being good in the air.
Agreed we need at least 2 new CBs Clearly Gomez is always going to be an injury risk, so probably will never be able to play a full season (as in week-in week-out). Matip for me is done. He's a talented player but ridiculously fragile. As a club I don't think we can afford to have a player like him on the wage bill anymore (and that goes for a number of other players). If we can't compete with clubs like City in spending power, we've got to be cleverer with how we use our wage bill. Paying for players like Matip and Ox to not play for a third of the season isn't a wise way of going about things.
VVD plus one of Gomez or Konate as first choice with Kabak being "last resort"...? Not sure I'd like to see the club spending £18m on a fourth choice CB
That's why I don't think we will spend £18m on Kabak. I do think the club will try hard to get it down to around £10m given Schalke are in a financial turmoil and I can see Kabak pushing to move to us instead of other clubs. With that said, Kabak can play on both sides (LCB and RCB), will have had a 6 month bedding in period, done a relatively good job and still only 21. Getting him for less than £18m could be good business for the long run. Plus, he could be ahead of Joe depending on how Joe returns from injury ... Konate's release clause is around 30m euros and say we get Kabak for £18m. That's two very talented young centre backs for less than £50m. Plus, I reckon we get around £10m for Nat Phillips in the summer ...
In form, I'd pick Jo-Go over most CBs, definitely before Kabak. They are different styles though though so would give us options. Don't know anything about Konate other than he's becomes great on Fifa
I would agree with you on that! I love Gomez and is definitely a perfect partner for VVD. The real concern is whether he can return back to peak levels - I've listened to several podcasts with sports scientists / surgeons etc and Joe's injury has one of the lowest recovery rates across all sports. I have only seen a bit of Konate but everyone I know who watches football extensively raves about him. His injury record aside and on paper, he is the long term VVD replacement. Which could make sense as to why we didn't buy a more experienced CB in January - because we wanted to wait for Konate. He literally ticks all the boxes of what we want in a defender, and I think he will become first choice partner for VVD at some point ... I do hope we get him over the line ...
I read something about his injury record and it's put me right off. We have enough crocks as it is - injuries are the reason we're in this position.
He's French so no issues with AFCON. In terms of injuries, we suffered one major hip injury. He then had surgery on it last July I think and he's not suffered any hip related injuries since then. He did suffer an ankle injury during that time however but it was unrelated .
