it does my head in that for years we have believed the hype about english football.we invented it,so we should be the best.bollocks. we may have invented it but we are now so far behind its a joke.just coz we won it it once in the year i was born?does;nt mean we are entitled to it. for **** sake we we can only just beat a team,at home the size of birmingham.what are we gonna do against spain or germany, shag all, its about time the press started telling us the facts and not building us up with this false hope that will never transpire, atleast in my life time.what happend in 66 was a fluke and given to us only because it was held in our country?....discuss
Who believed the hype? Since 1970 England have had good tournaments in the 1990 world cup, 1996 Euro's and eeerrr that's about it. Since 1970 we were too **** to qualify for the world cups in 1974; 1978 and 1994...and the Euro's in 2008. Since 1970 we have been embarrassed at the 1988 euro's; 1992 Euro's; 2000 Euro's and 2010 world cup... Since 1970 we have been average at the 1982 world cup; 1986 world cup; 1998 world cup; 2004 Euro's; 2006 world cup and the 2012 Euro's so in short...we've been **** (or average at best) for 42 years minus 6 weeks in 1990 and 6 weeks in 1996 Anyone who has believed England hype is plainly stupid!
Montenegro should have been done in by the half hour mark, they were truly awful. Wellbeck Rooney and Sturridge all greedy cnts and all could have made goals for others.
Guys ignore the troll, I wrote something about Van Persie tonight. Instead of all negative maybe I could lift some spirits here with something positive. It was a historic night in the Amsterdam Arena for him: http://thecovereport.sportsblog.com/post/273460/the_king_is_dead_sort.html
Thanks, my blog is about everything going on in Dutch football I.E. the Eredivisie and the national team. Had I started the blog earlier I would have warned you guys extensively about Büttner. Anyways, if you want to be kept in the loop with the top talents in the Dutch league, follow me on twitter so you get the latest updates: @thecovereport
What`s wrong with Buttner, not the finished article yet by far, but i think with game time could be a really good player.
Here is my report from last year: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/34494-The-Manchester-United-Transfer-Rumours-Thread-Updated-Daily!?p=3324393&viewfull=1#post3324393. I warned this board that although Buttner is a good left back in the Eredivisie because of his offensive skills, he lightyears away from being an effective EPL defender. His marking and positioning is piss poor and after a year still is. He didn't even get the sub ins I predicted, just some starters in the league and FA cup so got it spot on I guess.
Good accurate report Cove, do you think he may have age on his side with the tactical awareness part. Evra has been very poor in defence for the last three years (he did seem to be getting back to his best for a while last season) and i feel with first team time Buttner could become a decent replacement.
His passing is decent and he can shoot from distance. However, his tactical insight is below par. He still needs mature a bit in that department. Like i said good pace, great tackling, Man marking is above par just his height and his jumping can be a disadvantage. Buttner is a good left back in the Eredivisie because of his offensive skills, he lightyears away from being an effective EPL defender. His marking and positioning is piss poor and after a year still is Not sure if these two statements are compatable!
My opinion has on him has worsened over the past year. His marking was decent for Eredivisie level. And I thought, looking at Ron Vlaar and Vertonghen, that it might be just about right for the EPL. It wasn't unfortunately. So on EPL level, he couldn't make the extra step so compared to Evra, his skill set is overall poor. He is already 24 now, had 3 full seasons of experience but doesn't improve defensively. Still makes the same errors. I hate to say this but, get Baines...
Thanks Cove, i understand where you are coming from but as you have stated yourself he has had very little game time to adapt. I would love Baines at OT, not only for his defensive ability but also for what he could add to attack. Not seen you in ages so have some rep
Just out of interest Cove, how do you rate Ericksen? i have always had him down as a 1 in 4 player (1 great game, 3 average to poor games), you have seen much more of him than me and i would value your opinion.
Same, very high consistency though, the Dutch league is quite a static one. A lot of mid and lower table clubs go full on the defence when they play Ajax, but against the top teams Eriksen always seemed to be able to up his game a notch or two. I guess in the EPL he has more of those type of matches and he is able to play more freely as the English play from box to box most of the time, which suits his playing style. And I think he has already shown his brilliance a couple of times on North London.
