Right then, Friday night out our systems? Good, we've got a group to win to ensure another match at Wembley. Anyone else still believe? #metoo We'll ****ing smash 'em
I think we'll win this one fairly comfortably, when actually it might be beneficial to our long term prospects to lose or draw!
I don't buy that at all. Runners up in this group play the winners of F in the quarters anyway so what exactly does it achieve? Plus, now it looks like Spain won't win their group then our winners side of draw looks far better than runners up. @Schad posted an interesting breakdown over the weekend. Winners could face following route to final: Germany, Sweden, Holland Runners up could have this route: Spain, France, Italy. Either way, you've gotta play the big teams eventually so there's no point aiming to avoid them. Much rather play at a half full Wembley than travel to Copenhagen too.
Oh I totally agree, Libs. Was just thinking of the most England way of doing things! I think we go all out to win this (and I think we will, thus beginning a small wave of over-optimism, that gets shattered when we play the Germans).
It's the England way! I'm buzzing about the idea of playing Germany at Wembley in a major tournament ko game tbh. Doesn't get much bigger than that for me. I'd take Hungary too mind
I think the Wembley factor and the possibility of Germany then Sweden and the Dutch does it for me, bring it on!
Our Mick had a stormer in this with a goal and two great assists, Frankie also played in one of his criminally too few England appearances...
If Southgate plays both Rice and Phillips for this one I will be bemused. I would go with Bellingham in for one of them. Also Sancho in for Sterling.
Disagree with that one. We need Kane to find form and confidence before the knock out stages, so needs to play most of the game tomorrow.
Yep, totally agree. Kane has to get better, and he will get better by playing - he always has taken a few games to get up to speed. Doesnt help DCL that I dont rate him one bit, and would have taken Ings (without Saints shades on). Not that DCL will give two ****s what I think of him, come to mind.
If Kanes lack of form has nothing to do with fitness or injury then I think he has to start. Only way we get anywhere in this competition is if he starts knocking them in. What we need is more creativity and movement around him. He has been poor, but he's also been really isolated and barely had a sniff at goal. Frustration to try and get involved in the game is probably whats brough him too deep. I am also purely basing this off the Scotland game as I didn't see the Croatia game. If you are to replace Kane it has to be DCL. Rashford doesn't play the same role and that was a terrible and pointless sub by Southgate against Scotland.
Anyone else fully expect southgate to start the 6 attacking/midfield players that managed a grand total of 1 shot on target against the Scots?
Kane is our only World class player and has to play and we should be trying to feed him with quality service. I agree about Rice and Phillips and the balance in CM and there should be a more forward thinking player in there.
