Euro 202 starts today and it kicks off with Italy v Turkey at 8pm BST in Rome's Stadio Olimpico. About 16,000 fans are expected to attend the opener - with supporters expected at all 51 games across 11 countries this summer. Roberto Mancini's Italy have won their past eight games without conceding a goal and are unbeaten since 2018 but Turkey are being tipped by many to cause a few surprises this summer. Turkey have never beaten Italy, losing seven of 10 encounters, although the two most recent fixtures - friendlies in 2002 and 2006 - ended in 1-1 draws. The only meeting at a major tournament came exactly 21 years ago (on 11 June) at Euro 2000, when the Azzurri won 2-1 in Arnhem thanks to goals from Antonio Conte and Pippo Inzaghi. Okan Buruk briefly equalized for the Turks, scoring their first goal at a European Championship finals. Looks like the Italians will get off to a winning start.
So many teams now, twice as many as when I first started watching the euros, how long does it last 6 weeks?
Group A continues with Wales v Switzerland at 2pm BST in Baku which is in Azerbaijan Which I think is in Asia and I thought this tournament was Euro 2020 well they got both part of that title wrong. this will be a difficult one for the Welsh as the Swiss are hard to beat and won their qualifying group so I recon a draw is on the cards. Group B starts with Denmark v Finland 5pm BST in Copenhagen so back to Europe from what should be a walk in the park for the Danes as this is the Fin's first appearance at a major championship after coming second in their very week qualifying group losing 4 games behind Italy who won all 10 games The group continues with Russia v Belgium 8pm BST in St Petersburg on paper this should be straightforward for Belgium but an away game in Russia is never easy but they won all their Qualifying games including against Russia and Scotland
