It will be interesting to see how Bottas reacts , as he now knows merc wanted to replace him with Russell next year .
Will he do a Button, when standing in for Alonso, and announce over the radio he is peeing in Lewis's car! That might be good for a laugh. I think he might be a little more focused on a result and not joke around. But good luck to him.
I think it was as he was leaving pits to go to grid. He had an on air chat with Alonso and mentioned peeing in his car.
If Hamilton retired tomorrow, the only 2 drivers that stand out to be multiple world champions are LeClerc and Verstappen. Russell isn’t one of them
Interesting. To give Russell a bit of credit he has out qualified all his team mates in F1. OK so while the competition hasn't been great it's not a bad thing to have on your CV. Plus the Williams is probably the slowest and one of the most difficult to drive. It will be interesting to see how he gets on in Lewis's car even though it's probably just a single race. Charles did well in the Alfa but it was significantly better that the Williams so he had a bit more opportunity to show his skill. Max was in the Torro Rosso which was a mid field car so again, he managed to extract more than his team mates. I'm not saying Russell is in the same league as Lewis, Max or Charles this race will hopefully give him an opportunity to show what he can do. I just hope he can get a good quali position and stays out of trouble so can show a good race. Then we can see his first time in a Merc speed. I am really looking forward to this weekends race with 3 drivers in new to them cars it will be interesting.
Russell's realistic goal should be to finish ahead of Albon. He's not used to the car, which can corner significantly faster than his William's. Bottas should beat him, as should Verstappen, but then this weekend isn't a normal F1 track.
It's really too early to tell if got what it takes at the moment. If he's able to get close to Bottas this weekend, then we might have a better indication of what he might achieve in a good car. There's a lot of pressure on him and there will be a lot of eyes on him. It's going to be interesting to see how he handles it. Really hoping he does well though.
On quali pace Bottas is fractionally slower than Lewis, so Bottas will be comfortable there. It will be the race where Russell is consistently doing quite well of late. He knows he is being assessed this weekend as a replacement for Bottas or to fill a retiring Lewis seat. The pressure is high. A big chance for the lad, let's see how he handles the pressure.
