Something that has niggled for a while, but has become glaringly obvious since the QPR and Derby matches, is the total lack of any fan flags and banners at the KCOM. we generously provide lots of space in the empty north stand seats for away fans to nicely display theirs, but that massive effort of Derby’s last Saturday just took the piss to be honest.

If West Upper is to remain “shut”, then surely this would be an obvious location. There are already stewards up there all match anyway, so they could supervise folk displaying and retrieving them. If they want some form of control (safety/insurance/fire regs etc), then asking folk to register/notify in advance wouldn’t be unreasonable as long as it’s a quick phone call or email to give your name and seat number so they can tick it off a list and let you in.

Would this be something the fan groups could take up with the club?

The return of the infamous 'WE ARE HULL CITY' banner would be good.

At the time the old man was bleating on something along the lines of fans should be paying for advertising space if they wanted to display banners etc..

But now we're all mates again surely this shouldn't be a problem

There are certain unwritten rules about flag display and location, evolved over many decades of club and international games.

People will go to inordinate lengths at England away games to get in the ground earliest and place their flag behind the goal in the best location to be seen by tv cameras (case study being the textbook 'JOHN 3:16' campaign of WC86 in Mexico).

As far as I am aware there is nothing stopping people draping flags over the perimeter wall at the KCOM, or the back of the stand. Correct me if I am wrong on this someone (Please don't tell me some **** has decided it's a fire/safety risk?)

That manky old Dorby flag has been doing the rounds for many years, size isn't everything.

You know what they say: big flag, small flagpole...

When I was designing the flags, I had loads of meetings with the club over spaces to display them, they where put up in the North Stand near the police control box as that was the only space that there wasn't any advertising!!! You can't cover any form of the advertising (even if there's a big blank section). I even discussed about having them in the void between the advertising (at the top of the stands) and the roof, but was informed this wasn't allowed either as they'd act like sails!! If you look around the actual wall spaces there isn't a lot of room they'll let you put anything up. You'll also need to prove they meet with current fire regulations etc etc.... I can go on forever with this

And yet they have pitchside firebreathing braziers where the operative has a fire extinguisher a yard away from him !

I'm not doubting they said it, but it's not entirely true that the sponsorship stuff can't be covered. I used to work for KCOM and spoke to the lady who was responsible for the stadium sponsorship about this. She said they'd be perfectly happy to allow fan stuff over some of the advertising, on the basis that the same KCOM advertising was all over the stadium so it'd make no difference.

But around this time, City we're at peak unhelpfulness, so I can absolutely believe they'd have just dismissed such an idea without even checking.

One central defender had his contract extended
One central defender was sent out on loan
One central defender moved on to splinter his arse bench warming, before finally landing in a pub league and got himself sent off
One central defender moved on to become the world's most expensive

Yes, he may get over it one day. I won't.
