Ndidi, Vardy, Schmeichel and Maguire all sorted on long term deal Next to sort should be Ben Chilwell Talk is he could be moved into the England team for Tuesday due to Luke Shaw getting injured
Wow, personally don’t think he is anywhere near he required level. Bertrand? Delph? Suppose Cresswell seems to have disappeared. Baines? Maybe even Charlie Daniels!? Saying that, in the system the we play the full backs only really need to attack and he can probably do that better than any other name mentioned... but his crossing is quite poor Got to be pleased even to be within touching distance - shows how far he has come
To realise the owners ambitions we will need to be amongst the top 10, perhaps even top 7, wage payers in the EPL ... no big issue with King Power behind us ... ...we are now a 'player' on the world's stage because of it ... we are not attracting the good young players we now do because of our history and their love for all things Leicester.... unfortunately
Great new news to have these player on long contracts, others will now have to pay through the nose for them! Hopefully none of these new contracts have those stupid release clauses in them like Kante’s did if they have let’s hope it’s a bit above the market value.
There is no release clause. Merc have ran an article on Maguire not having a clause Since we got burnt by Kante and nearly by Vardy the owners refuse to put them in I think if Kante didnt have a clause in his contract he still would be here now. He isnt the type to kick up a fuss or force a move through Imagime him and Wilf together.
Kante only agreed to sign if a release clause was in his contract. Glad he did, even if it was just for one season.
Kante never made any demands. He didnt want to sign for us as there was talk Marseille was coming in for him so he held out and after realising they wasnt going to pay what Caen wanted which we already agreed then he agreed to sign for us
My understanding also is Kante wouldn’t sign for us without it - he really wanted to go to Marseille and when they decided they didn’t want him we were the best club interested but he didn’t really want us. Which is fair for all parties I guess
His agent most likely. At the end of the day, one premier league winning trophy year with kante was better than none. And we'll not include buy out clauses again!
Kante didnt have a straight forward release clause if I remember. It was something like we only had to accept the highest bid over £20M and I think it was Sven’s chinese club bid £30M which made Chelsea go that high As to who asked for it or if we just put it in as standard who knows but Kante wasnt adamant about anything when he signed. He intially didnt want to come due to Marseille but Kante wasnt first choice. Mendy was Once Mendy made it clear he didnt want to come which switched to Kante and got it done
I remember this completely differently Proud. Ranieri wanted Mendy but Walsh kept insisting on Kante - Claudio himself told this story. My understanding was also that he wanted to go to Marseille or one of the top clubs in the Prem. The release clause was inserted so that he would sign for us, else he was staying where he was.
What we do know is that he (Kante) was amazing and a huge part of an incredible group who came together to keep us happy forevermore (Not one of Whitesnakes better albums). Great gesture by Maguire to back up what he said about owing us for showing faith in him.
Kante was 3rd choice behind Cambiasso staying and Mendy. Walsh pushed for Kante but Ranieri wanted Mendy as he managed him at Monaco Initially they all turned us down. Also have to remember we signed Gokhan Inler aswell that summer who was viewed as first choice alongside whoever was in form but Kante and Drinkwater took the shirts and kept them
Inler was an odd one... excellent footballer but not the sort of CM who covered all the ground which sort of accidentally became our style!
Not quite - we were always after another CM after James's injury but also wanted to keep Cambiasso. When Cambiasso left, we replaced him with Inler. I remember Mendy being our first choice - was much more highly regarded compared to Kante but had just been made vice captain of Nice and didn't fancy joining a club who spent 3/4 of the season at the bottom of the Premier League. With Kante, he had the same reservations so we had to give him twice what he was currently on and multiple clauses allowing him to leave which he used to leave Inler made sense as he is a very good passer of the ball and would have worked if we still played in the 532 system that we did under Pearson but didn't really work in Raneiri's 442/4411.
