Halfway through this TV programme https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Bates_vs_The_Post_Office https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Post_Office_scandal The Horizon scandal, described as “the most widespread miscarriage of justice in UK history”, resulted in more than 700 post office operators being prosecuted between 1999 and 2015 for theft, fraud and false accounting because of faulty accounting software installed in the late 1990s. Gripping, awful, gut wrenching, heart pulling...I actually cant think of words to describe this TRUE story about the terrible machinations of ourgreat institution the Post Office against its own loyal, scrupulously honest staff............ reduced us to tears. A must watch..........................
I said that tongue-in-cheek - with my mind on the current Horizon scandal - which, rather strangely, was the result of investment in technology.
You spelt privatisation incorrectly. Oversimplification perhaps, but the main issues are with those at the top letting money be siphoned out of the system... at least workers wages get recycled... Terry Pratchett's boots theory springs to mind.
Good afternoon all. I hope you're all thriving and finding something to enjoy in the fight for a play off spot! I'm still enjoying life on the south coast with plenty of writing, painting watercolours, entertaining three delightful grandchildren, frequent restaurant visits, occasional pub 30s jazz and watching county cricket, not to mention regular cruises and a recent trip to see my older daughter near Narbonne (taking in Lyon on the way). I know one or two of you read some of my previous books and were kind (or polite) enough to say you'd enjoyed them so I thought I'd say there's yet another Winfrith novel...the seventh...now available on Amazon as a paperback or a 99p Kindle (or free if you have Kindle Unlimited). Do take a look if you're interested and in the meantime I'll try to catch up with the Hornets' Nest! I hope these links work! amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CTHZBD6F (kindle) amazon.co.uk/dp/8877824478 (paperback)
On the subject of the Post Office...yesterday they messaged me to say my new passport would be delivered between 11.14 am and 3.14 pm. Quite specific really! They actually delivered it today, Thursday at 1.37 pm with tracking still showing it would be delivered on Wednesday. Like all large organisations these days, finding a way to point out the unnecessary anxiety caused proved more complicated than finding your way round Hampton Court Maze in the fog!
Good to hear from you theo - I've been waiting for news of another Winfrith novel. And, yes, the link works - have just used to buy the Kindle version. I live in hope that the character names in this one are easier to pronounce...
Much appreciated BB thought I'm afraid I can't guarantee the pronunciation will be any easier! Ted and Betty wouldn't quite work in 9th century Wessex!
Cheekily, we've popped on here to recommend our own Hornet Heaven audio stories. (Well, *we* like them.) If you like Watford Football Club, they may be your kind of thing. They're heart-warming, entertaining stories about being a Watford fan forever. ("Original, funny and moving" according to the Guardian.) They're fiction, but they're full of Watford history and facts, featuring old players and matches. Always a bit different, always a happy ending. We started a new series (Series 23) today, so if you've never listened, there are more than 100 stories to catch up on. All for free. Our site is www.HornetHeaven.com.

Beaten me to this, we watched it on Monday afternoon. Mrs Fez blubbed as the credits rolled. Oddly, I had something in my eye at the end.
