It's a balance thing with me regarding Nunez. I started out being really excited when he played, then quite excited / a little bit disappointed, then excited / disappointed in equal measures and now I'm leaning towards more disappointed than excited. New season, press the re-set button and wait and see what happens.

A little statistic I read today that I'm unable to check out myself is that Macallister has been dribbled past 66 times this season, more than any other Liverpool player in the past four years. It's another one of those things that you don't necessarily notice in a game and certainly wouldn't have picked out as his weakness. All down to him being played out of position, no doubt.

I don’t want to be negative but my expectations for next year are not very high. It’s a huge transition and replacing Klopp will be hard on and off the pitch. It will be a huge transition year, depending on who goes/arrives, it could be massive. I hope I’m completely ****ing wrong.

Covering the full back was not exactly what I meant( poorly explained on my part) trent drops in konate, virgil can move across, you've still got amc in the midfield.

Plus with the 3 midfielders in front you've got an extra screen. It's all hypothetical though.

    He's a quasi 10.

He can make.good block tackles and is a tough customer but he is slow.

    Szoboszlai is a 10 also.

However klopp's stayed is clear. Everyone converged on the ball so everyone is gambling. You saw it when tsimiaks ran put of position v atlanta. You saw it when Robertson did the exact same thing again.

You see it every gsme where 1, 2 and 3 of our midfield will just go at the ball leaving masses of space.

When you do this you will sometimes get passed by.

If you're slow, you will get dribbled past. Despite doing a complete midfield rebuild, we could still do with a Mascherano type.

AMC is the Alonso minus the long range passing

    Alonso was quicker.

Both are tough so and sos.
    Both have vision.
    Both could shoot
Yes xabi was a worldie at long range passing
But alonso had unreal stamina and always top the km charts for us.

    We all like alexis macallister.

We all like endo I'm sure too but I think it's fair to say we can all see the issue with them being that pace.

The biggest issue is we don't have a proper DM. That's why I think we need a Mascherano (Souness to name another of the ilk). Who's our hard man? We have become a bit soft. It's why I thought Andre (Fluminense) would have been perfect.

If we're throwing out possible names - Koopmeiners, Zubimendi.

I'd love a Mascherano; pure destruction of opposition attacks but he was also key to us counter attacking too

Well, we do - but he's not a long-term solution.

    No we need an alonso.

How can a team like real Madrid go after cabinet and say no other player would do and how can pep want axbi at Bayern yet we as lfc fans would want a guy how barca converted into a midget cb in preference.

    I don't get it. Really don't.

Xabi alonso was the one true absolutely world class player we had as side from Gerrard.

Fabinho was a 6, he was tall and rangy but not quick so mascherano would be the rough equivalent but obviously shorter but probably more able to get about.

You poisoned the argument in MITO's eyes when you said "Mascherano" he has a strong dislike of Mash for some reason. I agree with you though. I feel like Mash is the only player that we've ever lost who we haven't ever been able to replace. We've had good midfielders since he left... but we've never had anyone who could do what he did- anywhere near as good as he did.

If I had 11 clones. I would prefer 11 Alonsos to 11 Mashes. Alonso was a much better all-around footballer. Mash was the best in his own role though, which was very different to Alonso. He did one thing, and he did that one thing as good or better than anyone. Alonso on the other hand had many talents and abilities and every aspect of his game was good. No one we've had has broken up attacks like Mash did though. That was his one important role.

As Z said, Macallister is our new Alonso. Please don't mention height again. :emoticon-0103-cool:

Top 4 is a minimum as I don’t expect us to be in any worse position than the lot behind us atm. City and arsenal should be top 2 being settled.

A trophy will be a nice addition to settle manager in and a decent Cl run

No one is saying he’s a better player. But for what we need, a guy that’s going to get across the ground quickly snuff out danger and make tackle in front of the back 4 - mascherano was that player far more than alonso.

They performed different roles and in our current set up we need a mascherano type to go alongside mac rather than Alonso.

Now if you could find a cross of them then perfect.
