I'm personally not a fan as I was given it as a child with pineapple and a fried egg and I'm not partial to fruit with meat. This recipe looks pretty good though so I may give it a go cooked in 2 litres of Coke. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=gammon joint&client=ms-android-samsung&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDhsSP4bTbAhUjAsAKHY9mCSQQ_AUIEigC&biw=412&bih=766&dpr=2.63#imgrc=LXNJmEcEUQtz5M:
Can personally vouch that this is delicious...I cook a couple of really big ones at Christmas and they're gone in no time. https://www.bbc.com/food/recipes/hoisinandplumglazedh_84880
Thanks for your input, I guess it's how you have previously tasted it. If it's just plain then it's pretty uninspiring but done properly it's delicious and great for sandwiches after. I had one cooked in 2 litres of scrumpy which was awesome.
I never liked it as a kid for exactly the reasons you mention - but the joints you can buy now are great.
Agree on the sandwiches front, I've just never been a huge fan of it really. I only really eat '****' pork if that makes sense, if I'm going to buy a proper bit of meat then pork doesn't even cross my mind.
Not a great fan of pork....disclaimer fan is no reference to a user of a similar name. But love it if cooked properly...not fan...the pork. Pineapple on top and an egg delicious, now im im fooking hungry.
Do a jerk and honey ham at Christmas, really nice. I hate Gammon steaks though and hate that people put pineapple on them.
Got Ribs from the Butchers for tea . Marinating as we speak in - Orange juice ( From an actual orange here at home ) , Garlic , honey , English mustard powder , Worcesterhire ( sp ) sauce and just a touch of Marmite
I make Cola pulled pork in the slow cooker. ****ing amazing and everyone that tries it says it's the best they've ever had. Tempted to get a pitch at a festival and bash it out for £8 a roll with a side of slaw. Make a fortune. But Coke is the best thing to cook it in 100%. I'm guessing the acids help break the meat down...comes out so tender and flakey.
Festival pitches can cost into the 100's or 1000's or 25-30% of your profits. Thats one hell of a lot of pulled pork you'll need mate.
I know mate. It's just me thinking out loud tbh. I do on average 3 festivals a year and I'd rather get smashed than serve food... Just saying it's definately a possibility as most pitches with good food is non Stop business.
