I grew up in Andover, and couldn’t wait until they developed Thruxton into a modern circuit. Went to the opening meeting, which was brilliant. My favourite formula was Mini racing, which was ridiculous fun. Got pit passes a few times when my mates built motorbikes and raced there. Awesome.
Q3 hilarious..... nobody wanted to go out in the last 5 minutes so as not to give anyone any tow. Then the all went with 1:30 to go and we’re so slow that nobody apart from Sainz got to the finish line in time to do one more fast lap
Watched the C4 highlights of Q last night, they are all saying how terrible it is but I thought it was brilliant. High level sport like F1 is also about tactics choices, those choices come with a risk and here the risk backfired for a lot of teams. Sainz and LeClec won the tactical battle, the rest lost. I imagine if Lewis/Seb had made it over the line in time while the other didn't, their post-qualifying interviews would have been very different
Mercedes has a strong hand here. They can get Hamilton in when they want and have Bottas copy Leclerc and just like pressure on him so he’s either lapping slower, wearing tyres more, or makes a mistake. Going to be a tough drive.
